Chicagoland Rescue Intervention & Support Program - CRISP

Chicagoland Rescue Intervention & Support Program - CRISP Chicagoland Rescue Intervention and Support Program (“CRISP”) provides free services to help Chicago pet owners keep their pets rather than surrendering them.

Chicagoland Rescue Intervention and Support Program (“CRISP”) provides low or no-cost services to help Chicago pet owners keep their pets rather than surrendering them to the city shelter. Whether you’re moving, your landlord doesn’t allow pets, or the cost of pet maintenance is too high, taking your pet to the Chicago municipal shelter (Chicago Animal Care and Control or “CACC”) isn’t your only o

ption. And if we can’t help you find a way to keep your pet, our network of Chicago dog and cat lovers will help you place them immediately with a rescue group or no-kill shelter to bypass the city shelter completely.

This is Coco. She came into the vet on death's door. It was determined that she had a blockage and need emergency surgery to live.

A tale as old as time, her family spent everything they could on initial diagnostics and treatment before the surgery. They had no funds left for the surgery.

Normally at this point there are two options: Euthanize or surrender her to a shelter.

Thankfully, Countryside Veterinary Center has partnered with us to make sure their clients have a third option: CRISP.

Update on Coco coming tomorrow...

Bella's brother Blaze passed away in the car on the way to Chicago Animal Care and Control. He had parvo and it was simply too late for him.

We're so grateful for the CACC staff member who took the time to not only console the owner, but to educate how parvo is contagious and would spread to other puppies in the home.

Because of this thoughtful connection, Bella's family was linked up with us, and as soon as she started showing symptoms we were able to get her into Countryside Veterinary Center.

Because Bella's parvo was caught early and treated - this sweet girl is going to make it.

In memory of Blaze, we want to say thank you to every CRISP supporter out there.

We've been backed up on cases again, but here's a great success story!

Paul (kitty on top of the pile) was adopted from Chicago Animal Care and Control. He's so loved at home, so when he started having urinary issues his family took him into the vet immediately. They suggested Paul could be blocked - which is an urgent matter and will lead to death if untreated.

Paul's family couldn't afford further treatment, but thankfully they were referred to CRISP. We sent them to Countryside Veterinary Center who take amazing care of Paul. And the best news? He wasn't blocked! He's back home now resting and recovering.

Thank you CRISP supporters for ensuring Paul stayed at home where he belongs!

Wow, Betty Boop was living in pretty extreme discomfort with a bladder stone that size!

We're so grateful to Bond Vet who worked with us to get Betty's surgery at a cost we could afford with her family.

With our city shelter's diversion program not accepting emergencies, so many pet owners have nowhere to turn to. We're grateful we can be one source of relief for those in need.

Betty's surgery was a success and she's back home where she belongs!

We've had an influx of cases over the lat week, and we're super grateful that we've been able to say yes to all our referrals!

Capone is just a puppy, when he came down with parvo his family did what they could to treat him but they couldn't afford hospitalization. We helped, and he's currently at Countryside Veterinary Center getting the care he needs.

Thank you CRISP supporters for helping us treat Capone!!

Sweet Tea entered CACC as a stray in 2023. She as adopted through One Tail at a Time and has been doing amazing in her home, until recently.

She had an unexpected and unknown ailment that had her suddenly able to walk or lift her head upright. CRISP & OTAT were able to help her with the initial testing, including an MRI and a variety of medications to keep her as comfortable as possible.

We're waiting on some test results, but Sweet Tea's mom has a Go Fund Me so she can continue her care. She's seen some improvements and has hope for a recovery, but could use a little support to get there!

Fluffykins came into Chicago Animal Care and Control yesterday, her family was going to surrender her because they couldn't afford taking her to the vet after she injured her leg.

The family wanted help, and thankfully we were connected, and offered emergency treatment for sweet Fluffy.

Our friends at Countryside Veterinary Center took her in last minute and today Fluffy will have her leg amputated.

Injuries, accidents, and sudden illnesses happen. Huge veterinary bills are impossible for so many Chicagoans. Our goal is to ensure that families never gets separated just because of a vet bill.

After her surgery, Fluffy will go home to recover she belongs!

On Friday we were contacted by our friends at Bond Vet to see if we could help a family facing an emergency.

Jack's family came in looking for help. They were able to afford x-rays and an exam, but when it became clear he needed surgery to remove a blockage they were out of funds.

We worked with Bond to come up with a plan to cover the surgery, and we're so happy to report that Jack made it through surgery! The culprit? A peach pit!

Jack is now back home recovering where he belongs.

Thank you CRISP supporters for allowing us to keep another family together!

Luna's family was in tears when they heard the cost of surgery for their sweet pup.

Luna is a well loved 5 year old Akita. Recently a neighbors dog hopped the fence and got her pregnant. Complications arose and Luna now needs emergency surgery to safely abort the pregnancy.

CRISP was called and we're so happy that thanks to our friends at KodiakCare we can sponsor the entire portion of the surgery that her family cannot afford.

Luna's surgery is happening this morning - please send her good thoughts so she can head back home where she belongs!

Our girl Lily Rose is perking up! With that good news, we wanted to take a minute to remind everyone what CRISP does:

-CRISP is NOT an intake program, our sole purpose is to keep pets with their families. Our program was started as a last line of defense at our city shelter, and while we are no longer able to operate in the shelter, we are keeping up with the spirit of our mission.

-Right now we are accepting referrals from area shelters, this referral came from our friends at Evanston Animal Shelter

-We have 2 veterinary partners we are also accepting referrals from

-We are able to take some referrals from the public, but because we do not have dedicated CRISP staff and limited funding these are on a case by case basis at the moment

Thanks everyone!
