Last night, Mindy had her Cinderella moment. Now she just needs her happily ever after. 👠

When Bark4Compassion invited CACC to bring an adoptable dog to their incredible fundraiser at Porsche Downtown Chicago, Mindy was ready. A pink polka dot dress, a room full of new potential friends, and not a single concern in the world.

She was perfection. 🥰

Mindy spent the evening soaking up attention from everyone she met. Adults, kids, dog lovers, donors, volunteers... it didn't matter. She loved them all. She happily accepted pets, showed off her manners, took treats gently, and proved herself to be an amazing ambassador for CACC.

And her night didn't end when the event did. 🏠

Afterward, Mindy headed home with one of our incredible volunteers for an overnight stay. We heard she walked in, took off her dress, climbed into her crate, and promptly passed out after a big day of making friends and stealing hearts. 🩷

You deserved last night, Mindy...

You deserve the world.

Mindy is just 2 years old and has been waiting since arriving as a stray on April 30. She's had great leash tests with other dogs, knows "sit," loves people of all ages, and is the kind of dog who makes herself at home wherever she goes.

Her adoption fee is waived, she's already vetted, and she could be home tonight if she finds the right match. 🙏

We're so grateful to Bark4Compassion for their years of partnership supporting our animals. Now we're asking for one more favor: help us find Mindy the forever family she deserves.

Please share this post and help give Mindy a lifetime of Cinderella moments and a forever castle... we mean home... 🏰🐾💕

Over two months. That's how long Marilla has been waiting. 💖

1 1/2 old Marilla arrived at CACC on March 18, and we can't understand why she's still here.

Marilla couldn't be any sweeter if she tried. The best part? She isn't trying. Her kindness, affection, and gentle nature come completely naturally. She loves a good cuddle, but she's not overly needy either. Honestly, that's a pretty perfect combination. 🥰

This beautiful girl loves spending time with volunteers, especially during nosework and agility. She enjoys tracking scents and finding their source, and she's been building confidence while navigating obstacles and strengthening her connection with people. She's smart and shines when given the chance.

Marilla is just looking for her person to follow through life. A human to love and a place to finally call home. 💕

She has had great leash tests with other dogs, is vetted, and can leave the same day if you're a match. And because she's been here over 14 days, her adoption fee is waived.

Come meet Marilla today. 🏡

Ingot has already survived so much. Now she just needs someone to choose her. 🥲

This 2 year old kitty arrived at CACC earlier this month with an open wound on her right side that was deep enough to expose muscle tissue. She was also very underweight and needed immediate medical care from our veterinary team.

After being safely sedated, her wound was cleaned, treated, and surgically closed with stitches. She received pain medication, antibiotics, and wore an e-collar while she healed. And through it all? Ingot stayed incredibly sweet and loving. 🥺

Now look at her. Hair growing back beautifully, bright eyes, asking for attention, and officially ready for a home of her own. ❤

Ingot is affectionate, resilient, and clearly so grateful to feel safe and cared for. She’s been through the hard part already. Now she deserves the soft blankets, quiet naps, treats, and love that every cat should have.

And because Ingot has been here over 14 days, her adoption fee is waived.

It’s Tuesday… and Alba is STILL waiting?! 😕

Seriously, how has nobody scooped up this adorable little brindle girl yet? Just look at that face. 🥹

2 year old Alba arrived at CACC back on March 13 and has now spent over 70 days waiting for someone to finally notice her.

And somehow? She’s still happy, hopeful, wiggly, and excited every single time volunteers come to take her out. 💕

Alba is petite, cheerful, affectionate, and absolutely loves being around people. Treats are a close second because this smart little girl LOVES to learn and engage. Tiny body. Giant heart. 🐶

Volunteers say Alba is such a gentle, playful girl and an amazing listener too. She follows directions well during agility and quickly learned how to jump over obstacles like a pro. She also participates in nosework here at the shelter and does incredibly well even with all the distractions outside. 🐾

She’s had good leash tests with other dogs, walks nicely, and brings so much joy everywhere she goes.

Alba’s adoption fee is waived and she is more than ready to trade shelter life for a couch, a toy bin, and people to love forever. 🏡

This Memorial Day 🇺🇸, we honor not only the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country, but also the countless animals who stood beside them in war, rescue missions, transportation, communication, detection work, and emotional support.

Throughout history, animals have served alongside military personnel with incredible loyalty and courage. Some of the most recognized military service animals include:

🐕 Dogs used for patrol, detection, scouting, and search and rescue
🐎 Horses that carried soldiers and supplies into battle
🐴 Mules and donkeys that transported equipment through difficult terrain
🕊️ Pigeons that delivered lifesaving battlefield messages
🐬 Dolphins and sea lions trained for underwater detection and recovery missions
🐪 Camels used in desert transport and military operations

Their service, sacrifice, and bond with humans are part of military history and deserve remembrance alongside those they served with. ❤️

As Memorial Day gatherings continue, please remember:

🐾 Keep pets safely indoors during cookouts and fireworks
🐾 Make sure pets are wearing collars with ID tags
🐾 Check that your pet’s microchip is registered and up to date
🐾 Remind friends and neighbors to do the same

Let’s work together to keep pets safe and out of the shelter this Memorial Day weekend. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Memorial Day Operations Update 🇺🇸

Chicago Animal Care and Control will continue normal field and emergency response operations throughout Memorial Day. However, due to reduced staffing and increased holiday related activity, owner surrender intake will be limited and handled on a case by case basis on Monday, May 25. We will continue to accept stray animals found within the City of Chicago.

If you are safely able to wait until after the holiday before surrendering your pet, we greatly appreciate your patience and understanding.

As a reminder for the holiday:
🐾 Keep pets secured during gatherings and travel
🐾 Ensure collars and microchips are current
🐾 Never leave pets unattended in vehicles

Stay safe and enjoy the holiday, Chicago!

As a small way of giving back, Chicago Animal Care and Control is proud to highlight that veterans in Illinois can adopt a pet without paying an adoption fee, thanks to House Bill 2500, which took effect on January 1, 2024.

To receive the fee waiver, veterans must self-identify and present either:

• An Illinois driver’s license or ID card marked “VETERAN”
or
• A DD-214 form along with a valid photo ID

We believe in the healing power of pets, bringing comfort, companionship, and unconditional love. We’re honored to help veterans find a new best friend today and every day. ❤️

Sunday Funday is better with a little sunshine… and a dog like Hashbrown. ☀️

3 yr old Hashbrown arrived at CACC as a stray back on April 8 with shaky legs, sad eyes, and the gentlest soul. Even when she was nervous, all she wanted was comfort and love. 💔

It’s clear life hasn’t always been easy for her, but over a month later, this petite little girl is still one of the sweetest dogs around.

Hashbrown has been waiting so patiently for someone to finally see her the way we do. A lovable, grateful, cuddly girl who deserves so much more than shelter life. 🥹

Volunteers adore her and say she’s an amazing walking buddy. She walks beautifully on leash, takes treats gently, and has had great leash tests with other dogs too. She’s vetted and ready to go home, which means if her perfect match walks in today, she could be spending tonight curled up in her very own home. 🏡

And honestly… imagine how much bigger that smile is going to be once she realizes she’s finally been chosen. 🤞

Since Hashbrown has been here over 14 days, her adoption fee is waived.

Come make your Sunday a little sweeter and meet Hashbrown. 🐶✨

Music, kindness and shelter pets all in one afternoon. 🎶

Huge thank you to The Rosenthal Family Foundation, the students from Catherine Cook School, Ms. McGannon’s music class, and Safe Humane Chicago for bringing so much positive energy to Chicago Animal Care and Control this week. From ukulele performances in the kennels to learning more about animal welfare and public service, these moments matter for both the animals and the young people involved.

CACC animals benefit so much from this extra enrichment, attention and time outside their kennels. We’re grateful for partners and volunteers who help us continue finding creative ways to support the animals in our care and help connect the community to our mission. ❤️🐶🐱🎶

Meet Doll… the tiny little lady with the biggest future ahead of her. 💕

2 year old Doll was surrendered to CACC on April 23 due to housing, and somehow this miniature sized sweetheart is still waiting for her forever home.

She may be fully grown, but honestly? If we didn’t know better, we would’ve guessed puppy. 🥺

When Doll first arrived, she was shy and unsure. But little by little, she’s started coming out of her shell, and seeing her tail finally wag with excitement when it’s time to leave her kennel has been such a joy for staff and volunteers. 💙

Doll truly lives up to her name. She’s sweet, curious, cuddly, and fun. She loves affection just as much as she loves exploring outside, and she’s had great leash tests with other dogs too. 🐶

She has her whole life ahead of her. Now she just needs someone to finally give her the chance to live it outside of the shelter.

Come meet Doll. We have a feeling you’re going to fall in love fast. 🥰
