I saw this girl full of milk and all I could think was “where are the babies??” Did she come in without them? Did they die? They aren’t on her kennel card. Well, turns out they were in adoptions just waiting on a family to scoop them up. That family wouldn’t even know that their new puppy’s mom was locked in a small dark eval kennel hidden away from the public. Brynn is timid but friendly. She walked well for me on a leash out to the runs. We went on an adventure to find her babies and sure enough they were in a big kennel in adoptions just waiting to be chosen. Brynn deserves a second chance too. No mama left behind.

💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
When I took Mimi out of her kennel I noticed that she was so full of milk that I wondered where her babies were and why they weren’t with her. He’s a quiet, calm girl and walked nicely out to the runs. Another German Shepherd that is on the euthanasia list for Saturday was out meeting a volunteer in the neighboring run. They both were calm and didn’t mind each other. I sat on the ground and gave Mimi treats. I love how gentle she is. We did a quick temp test and she did fine! This girl is not aggressive at all. After walking around the shelter a bit, we came across a litter of six week old puppies and realized that they all had consecutive intake numbers which means these are her babies. This mama has six week old puppies in the shelter, separated her out for euthanasia because they suspect she his favoring one back leg over the other. Sadly, that’s not even confirmed yet because x-rays aren’t scheduled till Saturday, but she is scheduled for euthanasia that day. It will be too late. I didn’t notice a limp actually at all while I was outside, so who knows if it exists. Her babies will all get adopted, and Mimi will quietly be euthanized. Watch her videos throughout the comments.

9/24/2026: Mimi greeted staff at the kennel door while lying on her blanket. She allowed herself to be leashed and walked loosely to and from the potty yard. Inside her kennel, she could be seen lying quietly on her blanket throughout the day.

9/25/2026: Mimi was sitting at the back of her kennel very tense and sat up when the kennel door was opened, watching staff. Once leashed, she walked out with a crouching body and tucked tail. Once in the run, she remained sitting in the back corner until staff returned for her. She held a crouching body while growling/whining, and staff slowly cornered her and slipped the leash on. She walked back inside and into her kennel with her tail tucked.

🚑 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

9/23/2026: Weighed 55.0 lbs. Mimi was noted to have an injured back end and to walk hunched over. She was mildly favoring her right rear limb. Exam noted right hip dysplasia/other and HW High Positive. Rimadyl/carprofen was prescribed, and radiographs of the pelvis and knees were recommended. She received routine treatments including rabies, DA2PP-V and Bordetella vaccines, dewormer, flea/heartworm prevention, and pyrantel.

Ugggggg meeting dogs like Wilma will absolutely just break your heart. Wilma is two years old, 37 pounds and heartworm negative. She’s a timid, sweet girl that is absolutely terrified in the shelter. When I came up to her kennel door, I knew she was a sweet girl because I saw the little tail wags. She was desperate for some comfort and attention. The shelter is incredibly loud. Wilma has no aggression to her at all. She’s just scared to death. So I just picked her up and took her outside. Out in the kennel, she went potty and sniffed around and hid herself in the corner. She actually really loves people and she will let me pet her and give tail wags. She’s just so scared that she gives a couple whimpers here and there. This girl would do amazing outside of the shelter environment. This is just not the place for her. She’s so gentle like a ragdoll. I could pick her up and move her around anyway I like and she was fine with it. She’s a sweetheart, but no one is seeing her and she’s about to get euthanized. 9/3/2026: A pack of mixed breed dogs in caller yard. Using the RR in yard. Barking/charging her and fam. Usually seen around 6am and also during the evening. 2 black dogs belong to ppl @3410. “Multiple reports filed”

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

9/8/2026: This Dog greeted me at the back of the kennel door with dilated eyes and a tense body. I tried to move adopt her however she would not walk on the leash today. She froze and thrashed on the leash.

9/6/2026: Dog was tense, eyes dilated, shaking. Leashed and she came out of the kennel slowly ignoring the treats. Walked around the entire row where she thrashed when a dog barked at her. Going the opposite way rushing into the kennel I had open for her.

9/5/2026: Trembling body, tucked in tail, whale eyes and pinned down ears. Would not walk on leash so I muzzled and carried over into new kennel.

9/4/2026: Pancaked at back of kennel, avoiding eye contact. I stood next to her and scratched her head for a bit but she did not move. I picked her up, no muzzle needed and carried her out to the run and back. While out in the run when I came back for her she held lowered head/crouched body, and came up to me with low wagging tail before sitting against the fence and looking away from me. Picked her up and carried her in.

I LOVE LOVE this girl! She is just so scared in the shelter that her whole body shakes (see video). She hit the euth list because she’s timid. Luckily the euth list for tomorrow is short so I took extra time with this pretty girl. Out in the runs she really opened up and started wagging her tail and wanting love. She would come back to me like we were always besties. I really didn’t want put her back in her kennel so we walked a bit and tried the leash outside. The more we walked the more confident she became! Her shelter notes say Staffie mix but her coloring says Catahoula girl to me. She has the most beautiful brown tones in her fur and her eyes! They are stunning! This girl is a hidden gem 💎 This is why I love sharing scared eval dogs. I will be a mess tomorrow if she doesn’t make it out. Great girl right here! 9/9/2026: Blue presented a timid body, tucked in tail, lowered head, whale eyes and slightly trembling body. Once leashed she walked with a slightly crouched body and darting eyes. She maintained a loose leash but would occasionally freeze and pancake onto the floor.

9/8/2026: Blu was very timid, nervous and tense, trembled, tail tucked, ears back, low head, nose toward my hand when leashing, did not want to leave kennel or walk, carried. Passing kennel she was quietly laying down.

9/7/2026: Tense body, tightly tucked in tail, dilated whale eyes, thrashing on leash and does not walk. Had to be muzzled and carried into next clean kennel.

chose opioids instead of carprofen due to lactating puppies. opioids can transfer into the milk but less risk to development issues with puppies. can cause drowsiness in puppies. also puppies are able to transition to canned food so should be nursing less

Spicy girl is a staff favorite and once you meet her, you completely understand why. She is just so sweet and loves loves loves people. One of the staff members was even giving her special food because he loves her so much. I was thinking with the name Spicy she was gonna be all over the place but actually she’s very affectionate and would love to be a lap dog. Spicy is a lab mix, two years old and heartworm negative!! She’s an absolute doll and I’ll be crushed tomorrow if she doesn’t make it out. Watch her videos throughout the comments.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

8/13/2026: Spicy greets me at the kennel door with a wagging tail and soft demeanor. She lets me leash her and walks loosely to and from the potty yard. Inside her kennel she can be seen laying on her cot quietly. When I enter her kennel she will melt into my lap as I pet her.

8/12/2026: Standing in front of kennel with a relaxed body. Easy to leash and walks on a loose leash. Greets neighbors in runs with a sniff, relaxed body and wagging tail.

8/11/2026: Spicy greets me at the kennel door with a happy demeanor, wagging tail, and squinty eyes. She lets me leash her and walks loosely to and from the potty yard. Inside her kennel she can be seen relaxing quietly on her cot.

8/9/2026: Spicy greeted me at the kennel door with a wagging tail and by jumping up on the kennel door. She let me leash her and walked loosely to and from the potty yard. Today she paid no attention to the other dogs. Inside her kennel she can be seen relaxing quietly on her cot.

8/8/2026: Wagging tail, soft smiling mouth, relaxed body. Walks on a loose leash. Takes meaty treats with a soft mouth.

8/7/2026: Approaching kennel, Spicy greeted me with a soft face, dilated eyes, ears back, softly whimpered, gently pawed the door and wagged her tail. She was leashed easily and walked semi-loosely, excited, tucking bum under, wanting to run then slowing as the leash tightened. Passing kennel, she was quietly resting on her bed. When customers took her outside, she hugged onto me as I pet her, displayed squinty eyes, commissures turned up and wagging tail.

8/2/2026: Spicy greets me at the kennel door with a happy wagging tail. She let me leash her and walked loosely to and from the potty yard. Inside the potty yard she was barking at the dog next to her. Inside her kennel she can be seen waiting by the kennel door quietly for interaction.

8/1/2026: Laying in bed with a relaxed body, swaying tail as I approach. Walks to the front of kennel and begins to whine once I open kennel door, she stops. Easy to leash and walks on a loose leash.

7/31/2026: Spicy was quiet throughout the day in her kennel usually laying on her bed. She was leashed easily and walked loosely. She whined a bit when left outside in a run, then quieted when I approached and excitedly hopped and tucked butt and circled. Passing kennel, she gently pawed the door with dilated eyes, lip licked, softly whined, tail wagging and ears back. She knows sit and paw and took treats gently from my hand. She loved pets, gave squinty eyes, hugged my arm and leg as I rubbed her belly, commissures turned up, almost sniveling, leaning into me and nuzzled.

7/30/2026: Quiet in kennel, kept kennel clean overnight. Relaxed body with a fast wagging tail as I approach kennel. Once leashed and stepped out of kennel she became very wiggly leaning onto my leg for pets as we walked, greeting neighbors in runs with a wiggly body and fast wagging tail.

7/29/2026: Whaled eyes, semi tense body. Easy to leash and walks on a loose leash. Kept to herself in the runs, after she pottied she laid by the run door waiting to be brought back inside.

7/28/2026: Spicy was a move adopt to my section this morning. When I put in a dog into the potty yard next to her she forward barked at her. Inside her kennel she can be heard whining when she sees someone.

7/22/2026: Weighed 67.4 lbs. Intake condition behavior severe. Vaccinated with DA2PP-V, Bordetella and Rabies, dewormed, given flea prevention, and heartworm tested. Heartworm test: Negative.

7/26/2026: Normal exam.

8/5/2026: Weighed 67.4 lbs. Normal exam. Very friendly.

💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:
For being just a year-old, Anna is surprisingly chill. Her notes say that she came in as a stray but she couldn’t have been out there for very long because she’s heartworm negative and she has a great overall body condition. This girl has striking two tone fur color. Her teeth are bright white and she takes treats extremely gently. Since she was the last dog that I was meeting for the day, we lounged around out in the runs for a while, and I let her have some time in the fresh air. I was laying on the bench and I noticed she walked right up to me and was wagging her tail and trying to get some love. She’s such a friendly, easy-going girl. I think she would make an excellent Family dog. Watch her videos throughout the comments.

8/13/2026: Quiet in kennel, wagging tail. Semi-tight leash ahead of me out to runs and back. Quiet throughout cleaning and after opening so left uncovered during adoption hours to monitor.

8/12/2026: Anna greeted me at front of the kennel w a loose body, she walked on a semi-loose leash to and from the runs and she took treats from my hand going back to her kennel.

8/11/2026: Anna was easily leashed and walked loosely with neutral body.

8/10/2026: Anna was easily leashed and walked semi-loosely sometimes pulling a bit towards other dogs and sniffing them. Passing kennel, she put her front paws on the door to see me over her cover, tail wagged, sniffed toward me, ears up, and sat for treats that she took gently from my hand.

8/9/2026: Throughout most of the morning, Anna was alarm barking in front of her kennel non-stop. When a sheet was covering her kennel, she calmed down and laid down on her cot for the rest of the morning. I offered her a pig ear and her Nyla Bone for enrichment. Made into Adopt Eval.

8/6/2026: Quiet and calm in kennel. Walked slightly ahead of me with wagging tail out to runs and back for both AM and PM walks. When passing people she greeted them with wagging tail, sniffing their hands and allowing pets.

8/3/2026: Anna stood in front of the kennel gate with a neutral body and eyes, and fast wagging tail while consistently high pitch howl towards me as I was either walking dogs or cleaning kennels. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. Anna was walked on a loose leash and neutral to and from the outside runs. She paid little attention to other dogs as she passed by their runs and kennel.

8/2/2026: Approaching the kennel, Anna stood in front of the kennel gate with a neutral body and eyes, and fast wagging tail. She did a good job of keeping her kennel clean overnight. Later in the afternoon, she was walked by a volunteer and very friendly towards customers as she passed by them in the aisle.

7/29/2026: Anna was calm and quiet in her kennel during am feeding and cleaning. As I approached she greeted me by the kennel door with a relaxed body, wagging tail and soft smiling mouth. Walked on a loose leash heading in and out of south building while picking from trail of treats.

7/28/2026: Anna was a Move Adopt this morning and was walked on a loose leash to her new kennel in South B. Throughout the morning, she had been standing in front of the gate and watching as dogs walk pass her and would occasionally sit down with a neutral body and eyes.

7/27/2026: Greeted me with wiggly body, walked well on the leash. Did well in the runs, however when coming back inside dog started to pull back… did not want to come back inside. I had to get behind her and scoot her inside. Was able to place her in kennel and easily remove leash.

7/24/2026: Greets me at the front of the kennel, easy to leash, walks on a loose leash to the runs, but when coming inside freezes at the door and I have to carry her back inside.

Princess has to be my favorite of the day! This little girl is just so gentle and sweet. She is about a year and a half old, 37 pounds, already spayed and heartworm negative! She’s just a little bit timid, but incredibly sweet. She did excellent on her temperament test. This girl is only on the euthanasia list for space, which means she’s been a good girl at the shelter. she will come up to you and lean in for affection. Just a sweetheart. Well….. I would tell you baby cows are the way to go.
Princess is perfect, amazing, nonchalant queen! She loves to be around with everyone but isn’t pulling their way, or trying so hard, if she’s in it she’s in it! Ugh I don’t think I have anything negative to say.
I saw Princess and she literally stopped me and just her sweet demeanor in the kennel got me!
Princess is SO social, friendly and loving! Shes the most perfect angle baby there ever was! She tested with a male and female and did AMAZING ugh.
Princess is one of those dogs where people wouldn’t even continue to look unless someone had her out

📝 Shelter Notes:

7/29/26: Princess barked throughout the morning during cleaning and walks. She greeted volunteers with a loose body, wagging tail, and soft open mouth. She quieted down after her walk but occasionally barked when people passed her kennel.

7/28/26: Princess slowly approached the front of her kennel with a low wagging tail, loose body, and ears back. She walked slowly on leash, accepted treats at times, and remained calm and quiet in her kennel.

7/17/26: Princess stayed at the back of her kennel with a worried expression at first. Once leashed, she slowly walked outside with her tail tucked before relaxing into a neutral body and following her handler.

7/15/26: Princess initially appeared tense in her kennel but allowed herself to be leashed easily. She walked on a loose leash to and from the runs with a slightly tucked tail.

🩷 Princess is a gentle, sensitive young girl who simply needs a little patience to build confidence. Although she can be timid at first, she consistently relaxes once she's out of her kennel and enjoys quiet walks and kind handling. With a loving home and time to decompress, Princess has all the potential to blossom into a wonderful companion.
