📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Ugh poor Walter, we see this same story all too often, and while understandable it’s unfortunate. Everyone wants the littles, and the bigs get left behind. It doesn’t help that he’s older too, but don’t let his age fool you! He’s still spunky and full of life. He’s 76lbs and actually a bit underweight. He greeted us with tail wags in the kennel and showed us his tricks. I didn’t check to see if he was an owner surrender or stray, but he was definitely owned by someone. He knows “sit” and shake” and had a “potty trained” sign on his kennel. He walked well on the leash and greeted Astro fenceline with polite sniffs outside. He was super friendly and gentle, even though he’s a big boy. He even made sure not to chomp on our fingers when taking treats. 🥲 Shepherds are such loving and loyal dogs and it breaks my heart he’s lost all he knows. I really hope this sweet guy makes it out!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Poor Walter came in with his old dachshund friend who was adopted pretty quickly, but Walter is still in the shelter. This has made him anxious and sad which results in him pacing, whining, and crying. He is actually a very sweet boy who loves attention and to give kisses. We know he's older and a big boy, but this big boy has big love to give for the rest of his life.

ugh I love love love this girl so much! I think this girl is misunderstood. She has a strange behavior that is actually really cute, but got her onto the euthanasia list. Ripley has a nervous smile where she curled her upper lip while she’s wagging her tail. It’s really rare to see a dog smile like that and I think that the staff confused it as a snarl. I tried to re-create it in the videos in the comments, but she’s just a complete love bug. There’s absolutely no aggression that I saw when I was with her. She was great at the fence with another dog and when I was up close in her face, she was fine as well. This girl is the cutest thing and at a petite little 33 pounds, she’s just about the cutest thing I’ve seen in a long time

1/28/26 – Ripley appears stressed in the kennel, barking and heavily panting when people pass by. Once out of the kennel, she presented a neutral body posture, low tail, and worried facial expression. She continues to curl her lip and squint her eyes when baby talk is used.
1/27/26 – Ripley presents a worried facial expression, low tail, and semi-tense body when approached. When baby talk is used, she wags her tail and lifts her lip, showing her teeth in a smile while squinting her eyes. She willingly walks out of the kennel and staff are able to place her in the outside runs. Ripley shows the same behavior again when the leash is removed. Kennel is covered and she remains quiet.
1/26/26 – Ripley is very timid/shy. When approached she runs away to the back corner of her kennel with a tucked tail, pinned back ears, whale eyes, and trembling. During afternoon enrichment removal she backed away as far as possible and remained tense with whale eyes, tucked tail, and pinned ears. She snapped toward a hand during removal. After enrichment was removed she remained in the corner pancaked and trembling.

1/20/26 – Exam noted normal findings. Heartworm test negative. Vaccinated (Rabies, DA2PP-V, Bordetella), dewormed.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Sienna is sooooo cute! I love her brindle coloring and she’s fun sized at only 28lbs. She’s full of personality and was very curious and friendly while spending time with us. She seems to still be recovering from a mild URI, but that didn’t slow her down at all. Outside she ran around, playing with toys and playbowing the fenceline with Romeo. I think she’ll definitely need a fur sibling to help keep her busy. It was so funny - she’d go from totally calm, to zoomies around the yard. I’m sure being stuck in a kennel has her pent up and that attributed to her energy, plus she’s still very much in the teenage “puppy” phase. She was a bit jumpy, but nothing overwhelming, and luckily she’s treat motivated and a good listener. She’s already been failed once in her short life, so I’m really hoping she gets a 2nd chance!

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Sienna was brought to us after being found running around a busy intersection down the street from the shelter. She is a sweet girl who is very timid in her kennel. She will back up in her kennel if you approach but is a different dog outside in the yard. She loved getting to play with the people who took her outside. She does have an upper respiratory infection, so she will do so much better in a home, for both her timidity and illness.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: I don’t have much to say on Doc, because after reading his notes I kept my hands to myself 👀 Sounds like your typical senior chi - I still wanted to snap a pic of him though, to make sure he was seen! He was shaking in the kennel and retreated to the back when I stepped in. He never growled or tried to snap or anything, and he even took treats from me. Poor little guy has got to be scared - he’s had a rough few weeks, and I can’t imagine him out on his own. He’s HW-, so he definitely had a home up until recently, and it’s so sad he’s in this position now. Hopefully someone out there can give him a quiet place to live out his days. Per his notes, it sounds like he will need dental work.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Doc was brought in after he kept going to the finder's house, likely looking for someone to help him. Being a little guy, especially one of a certain age is hard when you're out in the world by yourself. Fortunately, the finder brought him to us. He was examined by our vet and was found to have normal heart and lung sounds, but severe dental tartar, periodontal disease, and halitosis. He does have missing and loose teeth, so he is eating canned food. Doc is a grumpy old man so he does not like to be picked up, restrained, or have his face touched. He will scream and try to bite, but once you let him go, he's fine and won't try to bite you. We think he would be a "get off my lawn" old man if he were human. He really just needs someone to take care of him (he loves to bury himself in blankets) but also let him be.

📝 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Ugh, Astro in his “good boy” shirt & collar broke my heart. 😭 He’s been clearly loved and taken care of, and unfortunate life circumstances have landed him in a scary shelter. To make it worse, his fur sister was adopted leaving him all alone. When I approached his kennel he was laying down - poor guy was whale eyed as his neighbor was very loud and making a ruckus. I noticed his bowl of food was not eaten, but after some baby talk he did give me some curious sniffs and take my treats. When I pulled out the leash his tail started wagging, and he scurried outside ignoring the dogs growling at him as we passed. Once we got in the run he saw the dog next door and his tail started wagging even more. It was soooo cute. He met two male dogs through the fence and did wonderfully (even when one was a little feisty) so I’m thinking he definitely needs a dog companion. He was more comfortable with us after that and happily took pets and soaked in affection. I loved him, his sweet personality, and his wonky ear. He’s listed at 60lbs, but I did want to note he’s overweight and not actually large in size. The videos better portray his stature. I hated putting him back and I’m praying he finds a good outcome.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀: Astro and his sister (maybe like a stepsister, definitely not blood-related) Daisy came in together after their mom went into the hospital. Daisy was adopted, and Astro has been a bit sad to be alone. This chonk isn't even eating very much, and his shirt which had been a bit tight, is now a bit looser. As much as he needs to lose the weight, this is not how we want to see it happen. He reportedly (per his former owner's mother) does well with children and dogs, likes to ride in the car, loves to sleep in the bed with you, and is spoiled rotten. Surely someone is looking for a good boy who enjoys sleeping with you and could help you reach your step goals for the day since he needs the walks. We've got just the guy. Astro’s a good boy. His shirt even says so.

I love this girl and she was excellent out in the runs. Back in the eval ward she was scared to get back into her small dark eval kennel and was begging me not to make her. This girl is stunning and extremely friendly but she doesn’t do well in the shelter environment. I’ll honestly be so sad if she doesn’t make it out tomorrow. She’s so amazing and just needs to get out of here and start her next chapter. Watch her videos in the comments.

1/15/2026 – Very aroused in the kennel, jumping on the kennel door, vocalizing and heavy panting. When staff tried to give a blanket, she attempted to dart out of the kennel. Continued jumping on the kennel door, vocalizing, panting, and knocked over her water bowl.
1/14/2026 – Approaching kennel, dog pacing side to side in kennel with heavy panting, dilated pupils, and forward barking nonstop. Treats were tossed over but behavior continued.

I love this girl so much!! Unfortunately shelter life isn’t for her. It’s loud and she’s scared which has landed her on the euth list after only 4 days at the shelter! It’s amazing what a little baby talk and some fresh air away from the constant barking in the wards will do for a dog like her. They relax, they open up. Her tail untucked and she smiled. She doesn’t even have a name, only a number. He fur is baby soft and golden in color. I honestly thought she was only a year old because she still looks a like a puppy! She was very friendly with the dog on the other side of the fence. I hope she makes it out. She would be an excellent family dog. HW-, 2 years old

Dog was in the kennel laying down, as I approach she cowers her head. I leash and baby talk her, she hesitantly comes to
me slowly army crawling. Army crawled all the way outside and back inside
Dog was in the runs when i first approached. Once she saw me she started to scurry around and run away from me. Dog
had dilated eyes, wrinkled forehead, and was yelping. I offered treats but she ignored. With baby talk she would stop
running and pancaked. I then leashed her and she walked back inside with tense body, tucked tail, and low head.
01/05/26 13:57 tail down but wagging with baby talk, held out my hand for her to sniff and then the leash. However, once I
started placing leash had whale eyes and low growling. Once leash was on walked with tail down, semi-loose leash behind
me. Would occasionally stop walking and collapse in pancake, but I would pet her for a minute along her back and side
then continue walking and she'd get up and keep walking. Walked her around grassy area outside eval then back, still
stopping and pancaking but able pet her to get her moving again.

💜 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀:
The shelter sent out a plea for this mama on December 17th “Clover is an approximately two-year-old Border Collie mix who was brought in as a stray along with her five 4-week-old puppies. While Clover is heartworm negative, she is very timid; when approached, she cowers and moves farther away. She needs a patient, understanding handler who can help her build trust and confidence. Additionally, she and her puppies need a quiet, safe environment where she can nurture them without stress.” Well, her puppies have all been adopted out and this scared mama has hit the euthanasia list before she even dried out. Clover is very scared and darts around in the runs. In the kennel she is much calmer and let me pet her and put a bow on. She’s a great girl but she needs some confidence. Otherwise she’s perfect. Clover is 2 years old, HW- and a petite 32 lbs (including all that milk)!

🔹 Intake:
12/15/25 – Stray intake, intake condition noted as normal.

📝 Shelter Notes:

1/5/2026 – During morning walks, Clover walked on a loose leash and was neutral on her walk to and from the outside runs. She presented with whale eyes, low body posture, ears up and alert, tucked tail, and lip licking. Approaching the kennel, Clover was sitting on her cot when staff came from the side of her run. When entering the run, she got low to the ground and started to tremble. She sniffed a hand but moved her head away and avoided eye contact. Staff slowly placed a hand on her head and rubbed it while she crouched. Clover gradually became more comfortable, sniffed legs, ate treats slowly from a hand, and allowed continued gentle petting.

🚑 Medical Notes:

12/15/25 – Intake exam completed, weight 32.0 lbs, normal findings.
12/29/25 – Recheck exam, weight stable at 32.0 lbs, normal findings.
Vaccinated for rabies, DA2PP-V, bordetella; dewormed; heartworm test negative.

I’m not sure I’ve ever met a dog with so much personality. When I came into the ward a staff member recommended I meet Atlas because she loves him and is worried about him. Atlas was abandoned in an apartment without food or water and found himself at the shelter. This boy is the biggest meatball with the biggest personality! He gives a little sass when he wants something and does little tippy tappys when it’s time to go outside. I can see why he’s a staff favorite!!
