Life with Stephanie is easy like a Sunday morning. β˜€οΈ

At 8 years old, Stephanie has figured out what she likes in life. Give her a quiet yard, a tasty treat, a good scratch, and someone to enjoy it all with, and she’s a happy girl.

When you first take Stephanie out of her kennel, she may have a few things to say to the other dogs as she passes by. But once she reaches the open yard, you get to see a different side of her. She settles in, takes in her surroundings, and seems perfectly content enjoying the stillness of the day with you.

Stephanie has spent time around both dogs and cats. She’s curious about them and likes to acknowledge their presence without being overly pushy.

More than anything, Stephanie is an easygoing companion who enjoys simply being with her people. She doesn’t need every day to be an adventure. Sometimes a slow walk, a good snack, and a relaxing afternoon together are more than enough.

If that sounds like your kind of day too, come spend some time with Stephanie at Houston Humane Society.

For the first time ever, our dogs got to hop in the RunBuddy van and head out for a little adventure! πŸšπŸΆπŸƒ

Our friends at made the trip to visit our babies at Houston Humane Society, giving our pups a chance to get out of their kennels, stretch their legs, build confidence, and enjoy some much-deserved zoomies in a climate-controlled mobile dog gym. πŸ’ͺ

Seeing their tails wag and their personalities shine outside of the shelter was incredible to see.πŸ₯Ή

Thank you, RunBuddy Mobile for making the trip from Austin to see us and for reminding our shelter dogs that they are loved, seen, and worthy while they wait for their forever homes. ❀️🐾

For some of our volunteers, their love for animals goes beyond cats and dogs. Both veteran volunteer Ron and rookie volunteer Rebecca can be found working with animals at Houston Humane Society and the Houston Zoo.

Ron has been coming to Houston Humane Society with his wife Carla for more than three years. They work as a team to make sure the adoptable dogs have good quality photos to show their personalities. Photo session time with the pups doubles as playtime. Ron makes sure they're in a "good, happy mood" during their time together.

For Ron, one of the biggest ways volunteers make a difference is by giving the dogs time outside their kennels to walk, explore, sniff, and just have some fun. That time also gives them important exercise and socialization, and Ron says one of the best parts is seeing a dog he’s spent time with finally get adopted.

At the Houston Zoo, Ron's volunteering focuses on guest interaction, something he continues at Houston Humane Society. When Ron sees a potential adopter working their way through the dog kennels, he's always happy to help make a connection. He says, "We'll spend a lot of time with people who want to meet a dog."

Rebecca started volunteering at Houston Humane Society after transitioning to a new job as a licensed vet tech at Houston Zoo. She missed getting time with cats and dogs, so now she volunteers in our cat condos and also as a dog walker.

Her favorite thing to do is help socialize the cats and kittens. Rebecca says, "There is nothing better in this world than snuggling a cat after a day at work!"

Rebecca's heart is in working with animals. "My mission in life is to help as many animals as possible. I keep coming back for the animals. There are so many animals that need help and care and if I can make even a small difference just by volunteering, then that is something I will do as much as I can! "

If you've thought about volunteering, Rebecca says "just go for it!" She and Ron agree that there are so many ways to help at Houston Humane Society, there's something for everyone.

🐾 Why Spay & Neuter Matters 🐾

Our new Houston Humane Society Veterinary Clinic is helping us serve more animals and their guardians, but why are these procedures so important?

Spaying and neutering offer a variety of health and behavioral benefits for your furry companions, including:
βœ”οΈ Reduced risk of certain cancers and infections
βœ”οΈ Helping reduce the number of animals entering shelters
βœ”οΈ Encourages calmer behavior and helps pets stay closer to home
βœ”οΈ Longer and healthier lives

By choosing to spay or neuter, you're making an investment in their health while helping create a brighter future for animals across Houston. ❀️🐢🐱
