Our final horse feature for Adopt a Horse Month is Gigi!

Gigi is a gentle mare who is ready for a second chance at a beautiful life.

She is sweet, kind, and patient. Our staff is very fond of spending time with her when they need a relaxation moment.

She does well with other female herdmates and would thrive in a home with a guardian who just wants a friend to pass the days with.

Since Jenny and her family started fostering with Houston Humane Society in 2022, more than 180 pets have spent time in their home while waiting to be adopted.

Their journey began while volunteering at the shelter, when they came across a flyer for the foster program. After recently losing their beloved German shepherd, they were looking for a way to bring joy back into their home while helping animals in need.

Jenny says, "The foster coordinator was really helpful to match us up with what would work for our family, puppies. The kids were so happy as they have never seen such small puppies before."

They also foster kittens, who can sometimes be a little "spicy." But Jenny says seeing them "become cuddly and purring is very rewarding."

Eventually, each foster pet moves on to a new home. For Jenny, she “cries some happy tears and saves the next animal in need.”

Families like Jenny’s help create space, comfort, and a fresh start for so many animals.

Yolanda never had a pet, until she met Princesa. 💙🐾

After seeing a post about a dog in need, Yolanda opened her heart and home, giving Princesa a second chance. Like so many pet guardians, she wanted to do everything right, but access to veterinary care can be a challenge.

Through our Pets for Life program, Princesa received the care she needed to stay healthy, including vaccinations, flea prevention, and essential supplies, all at no cost to Yolanda.

Today, Princesa is thriving in a home filled with love.

But there are more families still waiting for that same support.

If you’re able, consider making a gift to help provide care and resources for pets in our community.

Text HumaneHero to 41444 and give $15 monthly to help families access veterinary care, pet food, and the support they need all year long.

When the Vu family found Katie abandoned on a farm in Conroe, they didn’t hesitate to open their hearts and home to her. ❤️

Katie, a 136.8 lbs, sweet Shepherd mix has become a deeply loved member of their family. Wanting the very best for her, the Vu family sought out spay services, but after receiving a $400 quote from a boutique veterinary clinic, they knew they needed a more affordable option.

After searching online, they found the Houston Humane Society Veterinary Clinic.

“We care for Katie deeply. She’s family to us,” they shared.

Stories like Katie’s are why affordable veterinary care matters. As National Pet Preparedness Month approaches in June, it’s a great reminder to ensure your pets are healthy, protected, and up to date on preventive care like spay and neuter procedures. These services not only support your pet’s long-term health but also help families avoid unexpected medical and behavioral challenges down the road.

At the Houston Humane Society Veterinary Clinic, we’re proud to provide compassionate, accessible care for animal companions and the people who love them. 💙

It’s our favorite time of the week! Happy Tails Tuesday!

This week, we are sharing the story of Tyler. He was once a shut-down dog who was terrified of interactions, but now he is thriving with his new family.

Here is what his guardian has to say:

“Obie, previously Tyler, is adjusting beautifully to his forever home. He is a calm presence in our home and happy to be wherever we are. He is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and has to keep his walks to a minimum. However, he is grateful for every short walk he gets. We are very much looking forward to the end of his treatment when he is able to go for as long of a walk as his heart desires!”
