One year of GCVS NASA Parkway! 🎉

Over the past year, our incredible team has worked around the clock to provide compassionate emergency and specialty care, built meaningful relationships, and made a difference in the lives of the patients and families we serve.

Of course, we couldn't let this milestone pass without a little celebration! Our team is marking the occasion with a much-deserved caffeine-and-cake break! ☕️🎂

We love seeing our specialists share their knowledge beyond hospital walls!

A few weeks ago, Dr. Christopher Jones, board-certified internist at GCVS NASA Parkway, joined a referral relations panel at the Ethos Veterinary Health national meeting. Dr. Jones shared his perspective on building strong relationships between specialty and primary care teams to provide the best possible care and experience for mutual patients and their families.

Over the past year, Cash has become quite a familiar patient at GCVS Houston. 💙

His journey with our Surgery team began with care for a right medial patellar luxation (MPL). After reinjuring the leg, Cash needed a revision surgery, and just a few months later, he was back for surgery on his left knee.

Through it all, Cash has remained his sweet, cuddly self. He loves people, never turns down some extra pets, and has become a favorite with our North Treatment and ICU/IMC teams!

At home, this little 7-pound pup is a total momma's boy. He loves walks, traveling, watching TV, and keeping his mom close by. He even recently celebrated his recovery in Cancun with his family!

Cash's family has been right by his side through every surgery and setback, giving him all the love and support he needs along the way. We've loved getting to know Cash and are all rooting for him as he continues his recovery!

Not all heroes wear capes; some have whiskers and a little cattitude. 🐱

When Yuki, a 15-year-old Ragdoll, needed a blood transfusion during his hospitalization at GCVS NASA Parkway, an unexpected hero stepped up: Kitty, the cat of our Education Coordinator, Amber. Kitty became one of the first donors through our new in-house blood donation program, giving Yuki the blood he needed.

Yuki’s family stayed by his side throughout his hospitalization and even got to meet Kitty. After her donation, they gave this little hero plenty of love—and a well-deserved Churu while she recovered.

And the best part? Yuki is doing so much better! At his recent Internal Medicine recheck with Dr. Christopher Jones, he was brighter, more active, eating well, and showing significant improvement in his lab work.

Way to go, Yuki—and thank you, Kitty, for lending a helping paw! 🐾

Behind every phone call, appointment, and family walking through our doors is a Client Service Representative who helps make it happen. ❤️

Our CSR teams are often the first friendly voice or familiar face our clients encounter, offering kindness and compassion during some of the most difficult moments of pet ownership.

A quieter, calmer environment can make a difference for our hospitalized patients. 💙

Our GCVS Houston ICU team has implemented an initiative designed to create a more healing-focused environment during overnight hours. By reducing unnecessary noise and stimulation, turning off overhead fluorescent lighting, and using soft, dark blue LED lighting, we aim to give patients a calmer space to rest while they receive around-the-clock care.

This initiative is part of our ongoing effort to consider every aspect of a patient’s experience, from the medical care they receive to the environment surrounding them while they rest and recover.

Although our ICU never stops caring for patients, we can still create moments of quiet, comfort, and rest along the way.

A quick look can make a big difference in an emergency. 🩺

Depending on a patient’s condition, their initial ER exam at GCVS Houston or GCVS NASA Parkway may include TFAST and AFAST — quick ultrasound assessments that give our team real-time information about the chest and abdomen.

These scans can help our ER team identify concerns early, determine what additional testing or care may be needed, and make more informed decisions about a patient’s next steps.

When appropriate for a patient, TFAST and AFAST are included at no additional charge beyond the initial ER exam fee — giving our team another valuable tool from the moment they arrive.

Meet Dr. Michelle Mendoza, GCVS Houston's newest board-certified neurologist! 🧠

Dr. Mendoza is a familiar face at GCVS, having previously completed her rotating internship with our team before continuing her specialty training and neurology residency at Mississippi State University.

Her clinical interests include intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), spinal tumors, spinal surgery, epilepsy, and meningoencephalitis of unknown origin (MUO). One of the most rewarding parts of her work is helping patients regain mobility and enjoy life with their families again.

We’re proud to welcome Dr. Mendoza back to GCVS Houston, this time as a member of our Neurology team!

After falling from a ten-story balcony while chasing a cicada, Lapis arrived at GCVS’ Emergency Room with significant injuries to his face, chest, and legs.

His recovery has truly been a team effort, with our GCVS Houston Emergency, ICU, and Surgery teams working alongside his primary veterinary team at Modern Animal and Veterinary Dentistry Specialists to support him throughout his recovery. Through it all, Lapis has remained incredibly sweet and determined, quickly capturing the hearts of everyone who has cared for him, which is also why he was voted as our Patient of the Month at GCVS Houston.

Lapis is now recovering at home with his family, while continuing to return for follow-up care as we help him through challenges along the way. His family has been by his side every step, doing everything they can to give him the best opportunity to heal.

There’s still a long road ahead, but this sweet little fighter has already overcome so much—and an entire team is rooting for him every step of the way! 🐾
