EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT: Our longest staying dog, Kuma, has been adopted. 🎉

Kuma, an 8-month-old Shepherd mix, was at our campus since July. After almost 100 days at the Houston SPCA, she finally found her new family! Our staff and volunteers watched her grow from a puppy into the amazing, sweet, and energetic young dog she is today.

We are so excited for Kuma and all the happy memories waiting for her in new, loving home. Please help us congratulate Kuma and her family on starting this beautiful chapter together. 💛

From living on a balcony filled with trash and little to no food, to sleeping peacefully and healing in her foster home. 💛

A couple of weeks ago, our Animal Cruelty Investigators, in partnership with Harris County Constable Precinct 1, rescued this severely emaciated Boxer mix who had been living outside with no food and no room to comfortably move around.

Yesterday, we received a wonderful update from her foster family that she’s on the road to reaching a healthy weight, is finally resting comfortably, and is letting her sweet personality show more and more each day. For an animal recovering from neglect, a foster home means more than a temporary place to stay. It’s where they finally get to decompress and begin to trust that they’re safe and loved.

By opening your home to a foster animal, you can help write the next happy chapter in their story. Sign up to become a Houston SPCA foster at: https://houstonspca.org/get-involved/foster-family/

We're just 10 days away from the 2026 Howl-O-Ween Ball! 🌃 Watch as our Equine Rescue Arena completely transforms and sets the stage for an unforgettable experience on October 23rd.

Led by Ball Chairs Grace and George Lane, with Honorary Chair Dennis Quaid and his beloved English Bulldog, Peaches, this year’s celebration will bring together an elevated cocktail hour, formal dinner, silent and live auctions, and inspiring animal rescue stories that bring the heart of our work into the spotlight.

Our Howl-O-Ween Ball is the perfect time to dress boldly, give generously, and connect deeply with one of the city's most beloved causes.

This yellow-billed cuckoo arrived with head trauma and is being closely monitored as he regains his strength. With wildlife patients, recovery can take time, and our team watches for important behaviors that tell us when an animal is ready to return to the wild.

Yellow-billed cuckoos are migratory birds that spend their breeding season across much of North America before traveling south for the winter. They are especially well known for their appetite for caterpillars and can consume large numbers when caterpillar populations are abundant.
For now, this cuckoo is focused on rest and recovery so he can get back where he belongs. 🌿💛

Introducing our Dog of the Week, Felix. ❤️

Felix is a sweet and friendly 2-year-old dog who was brought into our care by one of our Animal Cruelty Investigators. He loves belly rubs and playing fetch, and he has plenty of energy to keep you entertained. Felix would do best with an active family who can meet his enrichment needs or someone that can provide him with plenty of exercise.

Keep up with our stories this week to view more photos and videos of Felix! If you're interested in meeting Felix, come visit our campus today. We're open daily from 11 AM - 6 PM, and he'd love to spend time with you.

Fun Fact: Nearly all kittens are born with blue eyes. 💙

As they continue to grow, the pigment producing cells in their irises allow their true eye color to emerge. Some cats keep their blue eyes well into adulthood, like the Siamese in this photo.

Did your cat's eye color change as they grew up? Tell us in the comments below!
