Simply Cats We are Boise's cageless, no-kill, feline adoption center. Adoptions and surrenders are by appointment only. No appointment needed for retail shopping.

Simply Cats is Boise, Idaho's no-kill, cageless feline adoption center. Simply Cats got its start (with just six cats!) as Just Strays Animal Foundation, Inc., in a one room office in 1986. Thanks to a very dedicated group of people, the shelter grew and moved into a larger building. In 2006, the name of the organization was changed to Simply Cats Adoption Center to reflect its feline-only animal population. Meanwhile, plans were underway to construct a brand new state-of the-art adoption center. Thanks to generous donors, the facility was constructed and donated in 2007 and has been our home ever since. Today, Simply Cats Adoption Center shelters over 100 cats and kittens and operates due to the hard work of a small staff and many volunteers. Simply Cats is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that relies on donations for funding.

Happy National Vet Tech Appreciation Week!

We want to take a moment to celebrate our amazing Vet Tech, Reba, along with the rest of our Cat Care Team, Airis, Shelby, and Chelsea, who go above and beyond to care for our cats every day.

Reba examines our general cat intakes, takes X-rays, assists with surgeries, runs lab work, keep the cats on our adoption floor happy and healthy, and works directly with our Medical Director, Dr. Tara Koble, to develop treatment plans for our cats. She does it all with compassion and expertise!

Alongside Reba, our Cat Care Assistants help keep everything running smoothly, from feeding and medicating cats to deep cleaning adoption rooms and wards, tackling mountains of laundry, assisting with exams and procedures, and sterilizing surgical instruments. Their hard work behind the scenes helps ensure our cats receive the care and attention they deserve.

This sweet 12-year-old senior girl was transferred to Simply Cats last month from another shelter. When she arrived, it was clear she wasn’t feeling the best. She was dehydrated, congested, and refusing to eat anything we offered. After receiving treatment from our veterinary team, Snickerdoodle went into a foster home for extra TLC and continued care.

Thanks to Snickerdoodle's attentive foster mom, when she developed difficulty breathing a week later, our medical team discovered fluid in her lungs and an underlying heart condition. Snickerdoodle's symptoms were treated and today, she is back in her foster home, awaiting test results and working to regain her strength.

You are invited to our annual No Show Ball — an event where your presence is felt through the lives you touch, not the seats you fill.

When TJ arrived earlier this month, he was just two weeks old and small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. He came to us in a tote with his five siblings, all six of them so cold they were hypothermic. Our team placed them in an incubator right away to bring their body temperatures up, gave each kitten a full exam, and sent the whole litter off to a foster home.

The next day, discharge began forming around one of TJ’s ears. At two weeks old, a kitten’s ear canal is only millimeters wide and hasn’t even fully opened yet. Sometime before TJ reached us, while he was cold and without his mother, a fly had found him and laid her eggs deep inside that tiny, still-closed ear. Overnight, those eggs hatched, and the first sign of trouble appeared.

Our team examined him and found 15 newly hatched maggots inside his ear canal. One by one, each was carefully removed with tweezers, and his ear was gently flushed clean. By the time it was over, his little ear was red, swollen, and bleeding. Today, thanks to supporters like you, he is safe, warm, and growing big and strong in his foster home right alongside all five of his siblings.

We’re sad to share that our Halloween Open House will not be taking place as planned. After a lot of thought, our team made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s event.

We know so many of you were looking forward to it (we were too!), and we’re so grateful for your understanding and for the way this community shows up for our cats all year long. We can’t wait to welcome you back for a future Open House, and we’ll share details as soon as we have them!

This spooky season, help fill our cats’ pumpkin baskets with food and other items! Our supplies are running low, and we could really use your support. Guests are welcome to dress up in Halloween costumes or festive attire! However, to help keep the cats at our adoption center stress-free, please stick to simple costumes without masks, inflatables, or noisy fabrics.

This event is also a great opportunity to meet cats if adoption has been on your mind. However, adoptions will not be taking place during the event. If you’re ready to welcome a feline friend (or two) into your home, we encourage you to submit an adoption application.

I’m 14 and a half years old, with soft grey and apricot fur, and I’m a people person through and through!

I’m at Simply Cats because of my owner’s health issues. New places take me a minute, but once I feel safe, I’m sweet and engaging, and I have a cute squeaky meow to tell you all about it.

I love to chirp and make biscuits, and I’m happy with a catnip toy or a good scratcher. I still have playful moments, even at my age. I like to watch what’s happening outside from a window perch, and I’m a champion sleep buddy.

A warm home with someone to keep me company is all I’m hoping for in my golden years.

This sweet girl would prefer to be the queen of her castle as an only cat, but with slow and proper introductions, she could also do well living with older cats. It's unknown how she would do with dogs or children, but given her confident temperament, she may do well with them, too.

Our supplies are starting to run very low, and our rescue cats and kittens could really use your support.
