NACHO 🐾
Nacho was formerly known as Wi******er when he was with us 4 years ago.
Nacho is a great, easy-going dog with a wonderful temperament. He loves being petted and playing fetch on land and in the water, and he enjoys all of his toys. When playing fetch, he will patiently stand still and wait until the ball is released before taking off after it. He knows basic verbal cues such as “sit,”, “leave it”, “paw”, and even responds to a raised fist as a “pause” command.
Nacho rarely barks, not even when the doorbell rings. He does not jump on people when excited and is not a licker. He also knows the verbal cue “place” at which he will go to his designated spot on the couch or his dog bed. While he loves sleeping on the bed, he understands boundaries and knows he has his own bed too. When told “kennel,” he goes in without any issues.
He loves car rides, especially with the windows down, although he can get excited when he sees other dogs. He has excellent recall off leash and understands not to cross the street unless given permission. He can walk and run on a leash, though admittedly he behaves even better off leash. If he gets distracted on walks, simply saying “focus” gets his attention right back.
Nacho is also incredibly trustworthy around food and children. You can give a toddler a snack without worrying he will take it from their hand, and you can leave your own plate unattended without concern. If he watches while you eat, telling him “stop begging” or “place” will send him back to his spot.
Until recently, he was also very good about staying out of the kitchen and never getting into the trash. However, due to changes in the family’s life and schedule, he has started showing some behaviors like getting into the trash, digging holes, and occasionally trying to escape the yard. They fully understand these are manageable behaviors that can be corrected with time, attention, and consistency. Unfortunately, postpartum pet aversion has made things increasingly difficult over the past two years, and with another baby expected in August, along with major career and schedule changes, they have had to make a very difficult decision. Their days of working 12 hour shifts, leaves little quality time to give Nacho the attention and engagement he deserves.
This decision is not being made lightly. They love Nacho deeply, and because they love him, they know he deserves a home where he can receive more time, attention, and companionship than they are currently able to provide. They are hoping to find him a loving family or owner who can give him the life and engagement he truly deserves.
Currently Nacho is still with the family as they have agreed to continue watching him until a home is found to help the rescue not having to find a foster. Which is greatly appreciated.
