Kinfolk Dogs

Officially closing the door on our Truro shop. 🥹

A little bittersweet, but mostly very exciting. We’ve officially packed up and moved out of our Truro location as we start this next chapter for Kinfolk Dogs! We’re not disappearing, though. We’ll still be back in Truro on Saturdays for group classes, with the exception of this coming weekend. 👀💍 If you know, you know.

To every single person who has supported us, trained with us, recommended us, and helped us build this little business into what it is today, thank you. Seriously. 🤍

And speaking of this weekend… if you’ve worked with us and haven’t already, consider leaving us a Google review as a wedding gift. 😂💍 Truly, we could not ask for a better one.

Thank you, Truro. You’ve been very good to us 🥹

Onto the next chapter! 🐾
Hellooooo Halifax 👋 🥳

A few of the beautiful faces we have seen lately! We don’t want to air out everyone’s dirty laundry… but here is what we helped their owners resolve!

(Names, photos and criminal charges are in no particular order because we’re not snitches ✌️)

📝 Surprise mouth kisses for strangers ✨Movement is terrifying, actually ✨Eats anything that isn’t nailed down ✨ Steals towels. Will fight you for said towels. ✨ Is a puppy. That’s it. That’s the problem. ✨Beats up siblings. ✨Decided the stray life was better, aka runs away ✨ Screams at leaves outside. ✨ Screams at everything outside. ✨ Greets guests with the double paw smash! ✨ Has a personal vendetta against car tires ✨ Bites owner when overstimulated ✨ Would like to bite everyone, actually ✨ Vet thinks 24/7 sedation is required (it’s not) ✨ Personal space? Never heard of her ✨ Believes every dog they see needs to hear their opinion ✨ Cannot cope with the audacity of existing in public ✨ Generally making questionable life choices 🙂‍↕️

Whatever the issue is, remember you’re not alone and there’s a way to get to a place of trust and enjoying your dog again!

Sitka, Atlas, Mo, Oakley, Bella, Beau, Emmy, Henry, Sadie, Kane, Nyx, Marlon, Orion, Skip, Tucker, Ducky, Levyn 🐾

It’s become Ashley’s goal to make our Truro group classes as silly as possible 😂 Thank you so much everyone for showing up ready for a good time, and being down for the antics!
If you’ve ever been nervous for your first one… don’t worry, everyone is at first! But Ashley is there ready to act a fool to ease the nerves.
These small but mighty classes are meant to work through things with people who get it and have been there!
Thank you everyone for keeping it fun and showing up to grow together!

Oops… turns out when we’re busy training dogs, we forget to post about training dogs. 😂

We’re still here!! Just a little photo dump of what we’ve been up to lately 🐕

Lots of dogs, lots of driving, lots of lessons, and apparently very little social media. It’s been super fun getting back to some more in home stuff too! Wish we have been recording more because we have had some INCREDIBLE clients lately and some super fun lessons. Probably will have some story times to come 🙂

Here’s some of the last month-ish at Kinfolk!

🤩 For our clients!

Not only do we trust Poppy with our dogs, we have referred many clients to her in the past!

If you’re looking for individual care while you work that doesn’t impede any training this is a great option!

She also is offering in home boarding to HRM and surrounding areas!

08/02/2026

We have some exciting news!
Kinfolk Dogs is coming back to HRM! 🎉

Over the next few months, we’ll be transitioning to spending the majority of our time working with clients in Halifax, Dartmouth, and surrounding areas through our in-home training programs.

We’ll also continue offering Board & Trains for dogs from all over Nova Scotia (and beyond 😉).

Don’t worry, Truro friends... we aren’t disappearing! ❤️ We’ll still be back for our clients, Saturday group classes, and ongoing appointments.

This next chapter means being closer to our family, reaching more dogs and families who need help, and continuing to do what we love.

To everyone who has supported Kinfolk Dogs over the years... thank you. Seriously. We wouldn’t be here without you.

HRM, we’re excited to see more of you!!! 🐾

(Thanks to https://doggoneseattle.org/ for the most amazing shirts!!)

So excited to have another tiny terror in the Kinfolk family 🤭💕

Today was a BIG day for Keji Cola! 🐾

He had his very first visit with our favourite local trainers at Kinfolk for his assessment.
Now, before anyone pictures him doing obedience drills... that's not what today was about. Assessment day is simply a chance for the trainers to observe your dog, may have been a bite sleeve involved.
And now Keji is absolutely convinced he's been recruited for a career in police work. 🚔🐕‍🦺
Unfortunately for him, Ashley, Taylor and I have slightly different career goals in mind. Ashley has already made it her personal mission to one day snuggle the tiny beast instead of negotiating with him from a safe distance. 😂
All joking aside, I think it's incredibly important to remember that owning a dog isn't just about celebrating the cute, funny moments (of which there are a lot of!). It's also about recognizing behaviours early and working on them before they become bigger issues. Even though I spend every day around dogs, I still believe in calling in professionals when I need another set of experienced eyes.
Good trainers don't just train dogs—they teach us humans how to better communicate with them.
If you're looking for knowledgeable, down-to-earth trainers who really take the time to understand each dog as an individual, I can't recommend the team enough.

Now if you'll excuse me... I have to go explain to Keji that one encounter with a bite sleeve does not automatically qualify him for the K9 unit. 🚓😂 Look at him. One bite and he was exhausted for the drive home 🤣

🤍🕊️ Roman 2017-2026 🐸 🦫

Creator,
With a grateful heart, I lift up Roman to You.
Thank You for his life, his loyalty, and the love he gave so freely.
Thank You for the joy he brought and the blessing he was to Ashley and Taylor and to all who knew him.
As the sacred smoke rises, may it carry our love and prayers.
May it bring Roman peace, comfort, and freedom from pain.
Creator, receive him gently and guide him to the Spirit World. Let the Ancestors welcome him with open hearts, and may he know only warmth and rest.
Help Ashley and Taylor, and all who love him, to let him go with love, trusting that his spirit will always remain with them.
May the winds carry him softly.
May the waters refresh him.
May the earth hold his memory.
May the fire warm his path.
Thank You, Creator, for Roman.
Travel well, dear Roman.
Until we meet again.
All my relations.

-From Roman’s (and our) dear friend Poppy 🙏

Great idea! 👏 💕 🐾

Our outdoor exam area is finally done and ready for you! This area is especially great for nervous dogs and dogs that are not used to coming inside a building. We also screen coughing dogs outside to make sure we don’t bring contagious disease into the hospital! Not gonna lie, it’s also nice for our staff to get outside!

Thank you everyone for all of your advice and love the past couple weeks. It means more than what we can put into words. We are enjoying the time we have with Roman, so a few things have taken a backseat. We are beyond blessed to have this opportunity to soak in our time as a family 🙏 ☀️
