A dog that gets real off-leash time — sniffing, running, swimming, actually being a dog — comes home a different animal than one that only sees the block around the house. That's the whole idea behind our pack walks: proper wilderness time, dogs moving together, nobody stuck on a six-foot leash all day. This week the pack covered more ground than usual, including a brand new crew out in Dartmouth. Regular walks ran their usual loops — the peninsula, Spryfield, and out toward Ketch Harbour Road — but we also kicked off a smaller group walk in Dartmouth this week, with Piper, Swayze, Winston, and Rossi getting to know each other. Thanksgiving weekend brought a packed house too, with boarding and daycare dogs filling in right alongside the regular walk crew.

Starting new dogs in a small group before folding them into the bigger wilderness pack lets them build trust and manners without getting overwhelmed.

Rudi is getting better and better! This would have been a full on fight month ago. Myrtle just can’t help it and wants to play with him and Rudi at his own pace lets him get closer and shows some signs of submission within the pack. At times his mind still gets him into trouble but that is why he wears the muzzle.
