🦎 Happy Reptile Awareness Day! 🐍💛

Reptiles may have scales instead of fur, but they deserve the same thoughtful, proactive care as any other pet!

From snakes and geckos to lizards and other reptile friends, proper nutrition, temperature, lighting, habitat, and routine veterinary care all play an important role in keeping them healthy.

💛 A few reptile care reminders:
🦎 Provide the correct temperature and humidity for your species
☀️ Make sure UVB lighting is appropriate and replaced as recommended
🥬 Feed a balanced, species-specific diet with proper supplementation
👀 Watch for subtle changes in appetite, shedding, activity, or appearance
🩺 Schedule regular wellness exams—reptiles can hide signs of illness until a problem becomes more serious

At BarburVet, we provide veterinary care for reptiles and other exotic pets. We love helping these unique companions live healthy lives!

Have a reptile at home? Share a photo with us—we’d love to see your scaly family members! 💛

🐾 October is Pet Obesity Awareness Month! 💛

A few extra pounds can have a bigger impact on your pet’s health than you might think. Maintaining a healthy weight can help support mobility, joint health, energy levels, and overall quality of life. A lifelong study showed that Labrador retrievers fed a calorie-restricted diet lived 2 years longer on average.

Not sure if your pet is at a healthy weight? Here are a few things to consider:

🐶 Can you easily feel their ribs without pressing hard?
🐱 Can you see a defined waist when looking from above?
🥣 Are treats and table scraps adding more calories than you realize?
🚶 Is your pet getting enough age-appropriate daily activity?

Every pet is different, and the ideal weight depends on their age, breed, body type, and overall health.

At BarburVet, we can assess your pet’s body condition, discuss nutrition and exercise, and help create a realistic plan to keep them feeling their best. 💛

A healthy weight is an important part of a healthy life!
