Smoke & Fire Debris: Protect Your Pets

Following the Centennial Mills fire, asbestos-containing debris has been identified in parts of the surrounding neighborhood. Smoke, ash, and other fire debris can also irritate your pet’s eyes, skin, and airways.

Help keep your pets safe:
• Wipe paws and coats with a damp towel after walks.
• Prevent pets from sniffing or eating ash and debris.
• Watch for coughing, trouble breathing, eye irritation, vomiting, or unusual lethargy.

If your pet develops concerning symptoms or you have questions about possible exposure, please contact your veterinarian.

Fox took his job as appointment supervisor very seriously. From guarding the exam room door to claiming the doctor’s stool, he never let his buddy Phillip out of his sight. ⚠️ Foxtails & Cheatgrass: A Hidden Danger for Pets and Wildlife ⚠️

Those tiny grass seeds and awns may look harmless, but they can cause serious injuries to our furry friends. Foxtails and cheatgrass seeds are designed to burrow into the ground, and unfortunately, they can do the same thing when they get caught in fur, paws, ears, noses, or between toes.

Once embedded, these sharp seeds can travel deep into the body, causing painful infections, abscesses, and tissue damage. In many cases, they must be surgically removed because the body cannot break them down or push them out.

🌱 Please help protect pets and wildlife:
• Remove foxtails and cheatgrass from your yard and streetscapes
• Avoid areas with dry, seeded grasses during walks and playtime
• Check your pet’s paws, ears, coat, and between toes after outdoor adventures
• Keep a close eye out for swelling, limping, sneezing, head shaking, or sudden discomfort

A few minutes of prevention can help avoid a painful and medical emergency. Let’s keep our shared outdoor spaces safer for all animals. 🐾
