The first image shows Roxy during one of the hardest moments of her life. After being hit by an ATV, she came to us in shock. Blood was collecting inside her abdomen, her lungs were bruised and a deep wound stretched across part of her leg. Her injuries were serious, and our first priority was simply getting her stable.

For four days, our ICU team cared for Roxy around the clock. She received transfusions, pain medication and treatment for her wounds while we closely monitored her breathing. After everything she went through, seeing her run and play again is the kind of update we never get tired of. ❤️

One of the best updates in Teddy’s medical record was a simple one: “Eating regularly when offered.” He had arrived feeling very sick and with little interest in food, so a feeding tube provided the nutrition he needed.

Our team continued offering him meals and propped him up in a Bailey chair to help encourage him. Once Teddy was eating consistently on his own, tube feedings could stop and home was finally within reach. 🥹

Not long ago, severe neck pain had this 2-year-old crying out, freezing, and hiding. We found that the top of his spine was unstable. Stabilizing it took six screws, bone cement, and some seriously precise work from our Neurology team.

Then came his recheck, and there was Jack, comfortable on his feet and looking up at us again. 💚

Operational K9s protect us. This week, we helped their handlers learn how to protect them. We welcomed 10 ATF K9 handlers from across the western U.S. to DoveLewis for two days of hands-on emergency veterinary training. They practiced CPR, wound packing, bandaging and tourniquet placement, what to do for an impalement injury, and how to respond to emergencies like heat illness and opioid exposure.

For K9 teams working late at night, on weekends, or miles from veterinary care, knowing what to do in those first critical moments can make a big difference.

And this kind of training is a big part of what being a nonprofit teaching hospital means to us. We want lifesaving veterinary knowledge to reach beyond our hospital walls and into the hands of people who may be the first to help an animal in an emergency.

From law enforcement and TSA K9 teams to firefighters and local pet owners, we’re proud to help more people feel ready to step in when an animal needs them. 🐾

Peaches tore a ligament in her knee, which was definitely not the plan. But then she found out that part of recovery involves an underwater treadmill. Suddenly, rehab doesn’t seem so bad. A win is a win! 🏆
