Wheatens In Need Rescue

Thanks to some wonderful volunteers from the Phoenix Wheaten Terrier Meet Up group, Barron and Molly, the two senior Wheatens we told you about two weeks ago, are on their way to a new forever home in California.

Tom Heck took Barron and Molly from foster mom Colleen Carrick this morning and drove them to Blythe, California to meet their new parents Jeff and Karen.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this happen. We were really worried about these two when we were first notified about them, but the Arizona Wheaten folks did a stellar job in making sure they were taken care of until the perfect home came along.

Remembering Rosie, who was one of the first Wheatens we rescued from the Heartland Classics puppy mill in 2017. She was about 7 at the time and she lived another 8+ years with the Johnston family in Pennsylvania. She went to the Rainbow Bridge a few weeks ago. Here she is after a trip to the groomer and with the spoils of labors after a night of frogging on the family farm.

Barron and Molly in Phoenix, Arizona are both 9 years old and in need of foster homes. Barron has been with the family since August 2017. Molly was adopted at two years old in March 2019.

Barron and Molly were cared for and loved for many years. Their owner died and his partner is suffering from cognitive decline and has been unable to keep up with their grooming and veterinary needs. Both have been vetted. Molly is up to date on all of her vaccinations now, and Barron will be brought up to date on his in two weeks, once he has finished treatment for an ear infection.

Both dogs are in foster home now, but she can only keep them until Tuesday. We have another offer to possibly take them, but that volunteer will be out of town starting in mid-September. They can go to separate foster homes if necessary. Both dogs are a little reserved at first but very sweet once they get to know you.

💜🩷💚❤️🩵Remember Wheaten owners…all Wheaten Terriers should have annual blood work ups that include a super chem, cbc, urinalysis and a urine protein creatinine ratio. If you do not know the PLN variant gene test results on your Wheaten Terrier you need to get that done. You can get the DNA test from the AKC or Optimal Selection or whatever. This is Frannie, a 5-year-old spayed female in Littleton, Colorado. She is up-to-date on vaccinations, knows obedience commands, and good with children and adults, but needs to be an only dog.

We are still looking for a home for 5 year old Nolan in Houston, Texas. He is neutered and up to date on vaccinations. He needs a new home because he isn’t getting along with his owner’s new roommate’s dog.

We are still looking for a home for 9-year-old Beckett in Florida, whose owner died a few months ago. He is neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations and should be ok to place in a home with a female dog. He is ok around older children, but not so great with younger ones; he was placed a few weeks ago and returned for “herding” the children while they were playing with their friends.

This is Barney, a two-year-old neutered male who is currently in the St. Louis area of Missouri. His owner is in declining health and can no longer care for him. Barney needs to be an only dog. He has not had any exposure to children.
