Today, Heaven at Home is celebrating ! While all the ghouls and goblins get their fill of candy tomorrow night, today our fur babies get to indulge in their favorite snacks or treats! While we urge pet parents to provide a healthy diet for their cats and dogs, there's no harm in giving them extra treats at least once a year.

Today, Heaven at Home is celebrating , bringing awareness to the number of cats that need to be rescued each year!

While dogs have a way of stealing the spotlight, cats remind us that just when you think they've lost interest in you, they'll turn around and melt your hearts. When it appears they're too busy staring out at passing cars, toy mice, and sending tiny multi-colored balls to the abyss (getting them stuck under the couch), they'll somehow let you know that their very world revolves around you.

Heaven at Home Pet Hospice extends our sincerest condolences to Kelli for the passing of her beloved dog, Yukon. We love hearing cherished stories and memories about the pets we help pass peacefully. Here's a little bit of what Kelli shared with us about him:

"A little over 13 years ago, my mom and I were going to adoption events for rescues around town. At one of them, a husky-mix walked through the doors. His left eye had obvious issues, and he had a scar across his neck. I've always dreamed of having a husky and knew I had to hear his story.

"It took a while for him to adjust, but as we loved on him, he slowly became the most gentle, sweet dog. I'm so grateful he came into our lives - that the Universe connected us and allowed us to take care of him."

🫶🐾 FAQ: WHAT ARE THE SIGNS MY PET IS NEARING THE END OF LIFE?

End-of-life changes usually appear as a pattern rather than one specific sign. They may sleep more, become weaker, eat or drink less, have difficulty standing or walking, withdraw from normal activities, become restless or confused, or develop changes in breathing and elimination. These changes vary considerably between pets, and because some symptoms can still be treated or relieved, new changes should be discussed with a veterinarian, as treatment may still be possible.

This holiday was created to share info about dogs' importance in our lives and how much they improve our lives with love and loyalty. We also use this day to encourage people to adopt from responsible shelters and provide a better life for at least one puppy. We mean the world for a dog, and it is time we ensure they get everything they deserve.

🫶🐾 FAQ: WHAT IS AQUAMATION FOR PETS?

Aquamation is a flame-free form of pet aftercare that uses alkaline hydrolysis rather than combustion. Families can receive their pet's processed mineral remains afterward and keep or memorialize them in many of the same ways as remains returned after traditional cremation.

At the end of the process, the pet's mineral remains are dried and processed into a fine powder that can be returned to the family, much like cremated remains after traditional flame cremation.

Heaven at Home believes every pet should have access to proper care, especially as they enter old age and their medical needs compound.

The Herkemer Fund was created in loving memory of Heaven at Home founder Dr. Laurie Brush's loyal companion. Funds may be used to offset the cost of an at-home euthanasia visit for those on a restricted income, Hospice and Palliative care treatment costs, or aftercare, including body removal and cremation/aquamation.
