Our Clinic Isn’t Scary… Our Patients Just Think We Are!
Let’s be honest—our veterinary clinic isn’t scary, but sometimes our patients definitely think it’s a horror movie!
Even though your pet may absolutely hate coming to see us, we want you to know that we never want their visit to be a scary or traumatic experience.
Unfortunately, there are times when we have to do things your pet doesn’t particularly enjoy—vaccines, blood draws, nail trims, ear checks, examinations, and other necessary treatments. They may not understand that we are trying to help them; they just know that they don’t like what we’re doing!
That’s why we take the time to read their body language and listen to what they’re telling us.
Dogs may show stress by licking their lips, yawning, turning away, tucking their tail, freezing, avoiding eye contact, or becoming tense. Cats can be even more subtle, showing stress through flattened ears, a tucked or twitching tail, crouching, dilated pupils, tense muscles, or suddenly becoming very still.
These signals matter.
When we see that your pet is uncomfortable or overwhelmed, we adjust our approach whenever possible. We may slow down, give them a break, offer treats, let them sniff and investigate, change how we handle them, or simply give them a moment to relax.
We know they don’t always understand that we’re the good guys!
Our goal is never to force our way through an appointment just because we can. We want to do what is medically necessary while being mindful of your pet’s comfort, fear, and trust.
So yes… your dog may act like we are the worst people they’ve ever met when you walk through our doors. Your cat may look at us like we have personally betrayed them.
But we promise—we’re paying attention.
We take the time to understand your pet, respect their body language, and do our best to make their visit as calm and positive as possible.
Because even when they don’t like what we have to do, we never want them to feel like they have to be afraid of us. 🤗
