Did you know heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes and not from pet to pet? 🦟❤️

When a mosquito bites an infected animal, it picks up microscopic heartworm larvae. Those larvae are then passed to the next dog or cat the mosquito bites. Over time, the worms grow and can live in the heart, lungs, and blood vessels, causing serious health problems.

The good news? Heartworm disease is preventable!
Monthly prevention is the safest and easiest way to protect your pets year-round. Even indoor pets can be at risk since mosquitoes can make their way inside homes.

Not sure if your pet is protected or due for testing? Our team at Beechwold Veterinary Hospital is happy to help! 🐶🐱

🎉 Happy 33rd Work Anniversary to Dr. Stewart! 🎉

Today we’re celebrating an incredible milestone for someone who has been part of the Beechwold Veterinary Hospital family for over three decades. 🐾

Dr. Stewart first joined our team in 1993 as a kennel technician and veterinary assistant. Through years of hard work, dedication, and compassion for animals, he achieved his dream of becoming a veterinarian and officially began practicing here at Beechwold Veterinary Hospital in 2000.

For 33 years, Dr. Stewart has cared for countless pets and supported generations of families in our community with kindness, skill, and heart. We are so grateful for everything he brings to our hospital every single day.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Stewart on this amazing anniversary! ❤️🐶🐱

Let’s Get Travel-Prepared!

Whether you’re hitting the open road with your furry co-pilot, booking a staycation at a boarding facility, or welcoming a pet sitter into your home, a little prep goes a long way in keeping your pet happy and healthy. 🐾

Here’s your Beechwold Vet Travel Checklist to ensure a stress-free transition:

🏥 1. Update Those Records
Most boarding facilities and sitters require up-to-date vaccinations (especially Bordetella for dogs!). If you're traveling across state lines or flying, you may also need a Health Certificate.

Pro-tip: Check your records now so there are no last-minute surprises!

💊 2. Stock Up on Meds & Preventatives
Don’t get caught empty-handed! Make sure you have enough heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives to last the duration of your trip, plus a few extra days just in case of delays.

🏷️ 3. Check the Tech (Microchips & Tags)
New environments can be spooky. Ensure your pet’s microchip information is current and their ID tags are secure and legible. It’s the fastest way to get them back to you if they decide to go on an solo "adventure."

🎒 4. Pack a "Comfort Kit"
Change can be tough! Packing their usual food, a favorite blanket, or a familiar toy can help reduce anxiety.

Note: If your pet gets car sick or anxious during travel, give us a call! We can discuss safe options to help them stay calm and comfortable.

Planning a getaway? 🏖️
Give us a call at (614) 268-8666 or message us through the portal to schedule a wellness check or request a copy of your pet's records.

Safe travels, Beechwold family! 🐾✨
