Furever Thankful Friday: The Quiet Moments

There are difficult moments when everything feels overwhelming.

And then there are the quiet moments.

A pet finally relaxing.
A family sharing a story that brings a smile through the tears.
A gentle hand resting on a beloved pet.
Everyone gathered close.
A moment when everything seems to slow down.

These are the moments we are especially grateful for.

We are grateful that families trust us to be there beside them—to bring a calm, reassuring presence, gently guide them through what comes next, and give them the space to simply be with the pet they love.

We are grateful for the stories they share, the love they show, and the privilege of being welcomed into such a deeply personal moment.

Saying goodbye is never easy.

But being able to help a family feel supported, understood, and at peace during that moment is something we never take for granted.

That is what we are thankful for this Friday. ❤️

Wellness Wednesday 🍂🐾 Fall is here, is your pet ready?

Fall is here, and with the changing season, our pets’ routines and surroundings can change too.

Cooler temperatures, shorter days, seasonal decorations, more time indoors, and changes around the house are all good reasons to take a quick look at your pet’s environment.

A few simple things to check:

🍂 Take a look at what’s within reach as you bring out seasonal decorations.

🔥 Make sure fireplaces, space heaters, and candles are safely out of reach.

🐾 Pay attention to changes in your pet’s outdoor routine as temperatures drop.

🏠 Make sure your pet has a comfortable, cozy place to rest.

For senior pets, it can be especially helpful to think about comfort as the weather changes. Cooler temperatures may make stiff joints or mobility challenges more noticeable. A warm resting spot, secure footing, and keeping frequently used areas easy to navigate can all help your older pet feel more comfortable at home.

And remember to keep potentially harmful substances, such as antifreeze and pest-control products, safely stored away.

The goal isn’t to worry about every little thing. It’s simply to notice what has changed around your pet and make a few thoughtful adjustments.

Sometimes, good pet care is just looking at the world through your pet’s eyes and making small changes that help them stay safe, comfortable, and happy as the seasons change. ❤️

Memorial Monday ❤️ | Remembering Jordyn

Some lives may be shorter than we wish, but they can still be filled with an incredible amount of love, adventure, and joy. ❤️

Jordyn shared eight wonderful years with her family and her littermate sister, Avery, exploring their 15 acres and keeping a watchful eye on all those wild squirrels and rabbits! She loved her home and the life she shared with the people who loved her.

When it was time to say goodbye, Jordyn was able to be at home, in the front yard she loved so much — the very place that had been her playground and where she had spent so many happy days.

We were honored to be there for Jordyn and her family and grateful to help make her final moments comfortable and peaceful.

Memorial Monday ❤️ | Remembering Boss

Some dogs become part of your life. Others become your whole world. Boss was that kind of dog. ❤️

For 15 years, Boss was his person’s constant companion, traveling up and down the East Coast, ruling the house and yard, and making his presence known everywhere he went — even at the Mothman statue!

But perhaps one of the most special things about Boss was his love for kittens. He welcomed and helped raise countless kittens, giving them the care and love they needed to find their forever homes. His big personality, adventurous spirit, and enormous heart touched so many lives, both human and animal.

We were honored to be part of Boss’s final goodbye and grateful to his family for allowing us to celebrate the incredible life and love they shared.

The Gift of Time

Sometimes, one of the most meaningful things we can give a family is time.

Time to gather everyone together.

Time to share one more story.

Time to offer a favorite treat.

Time to sit quietly beside a beloved pet.

Time to say, “I love you,” one more time.

At Kona’s Loving Paws, we know that these moments cannot—and should not—be rushed. Every family has their own way of saying goodbye, and sometimes the most important thing we can do is simply give them the space to be together.

We are grateful for the families who trust us to be there during these deeply personal moments. Being able to slow down, listen, and give a family the time they need is one of the most meaningful parts of providing compassionate, in-home end-of-life care.

Dental health is about much more than keeping your pet’s teeth clean or preventing bad breath.

Dental disease can cause ongoing inflammation and discomfort, and that matters even more as our pets get older. Senior pets may already be managing changes in mobility, appetite, energy, or other health concerns. Adding another source of pain or inflammation can make it harder for them to feel comfortable and enjoy their everyday lives.

That’s why dental health is part of the bigger picture of your pet’s overall wellness.

For older pets especially, paying attention to their mouth and keeping up with appropriate dental care can be one more way to support comfort and quality of life.

Memorial Monday ❤️ | Remembering Molly

Some dogs have a gentle spirit that makes everyone around them feel loved, and Molly was one of those special girls. ❤️

From the time she joined her family at just 8 weeks old, Molly filled nearly 12 years with love, companionship, car rides, and a wonderful ability to never meet a stranger. She loved being wherever the action was and was truly a cherished member of her family.

When it was time to say goodbye, Molly was able to do so right where she was most comfortable — on her own couch, surrounded by the people who loved her.

We were honored to be there for Molly and her family, and grateful to help make her final goodbye as comfortable and peaceful as possible.

Some pets have personalities that simply cannot be forgotten — and Bijou was certainly one of them. ❤️

Mischievous, sweet, sassy, silly, fiercely independent, and endlessly loving, Bijou brought so much personality and joy to her family’s life. She was a little dog with a very big presence, from her famous backyard zoomies to her endless appetite for adventure, cuddles, and being right by her family’s side.

Her name means “jewel” in French, and to her family, she truly was a diamond in the ruff.

We were honored to be part of Bijou’s final goodbye and grateful to her family for allowing us to celebrate the incredible little girl she was. ❤️

Furever Thankful Friday ❤️ The Honor of Being Invited In

There is something incredibly meaningful about being invited into someone’s home during one of the most difficult moments of their lives.

When a family welcomes one of our doctors into their home to help their beloved pet have a peaceful passing, they’re trusting us with so much more than that moment. They’re trusting us with their memories, their emotions, their family, and a special friend who has meant so much to them.

We get to hear the stories—the funny little quirks, the favorite places to sleep, the things that made them laugh, and the countless memories that made that pet so special.

And then, for a little while, we become part of that story too.

Choose a nutritious diet that is appropriate for your pet’s age, size, and individual needs. And don’t forget about portions — maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of overall health.

🐾 2. Keep them moving
Regular exercise helps support healthy muscles, joints, weight, and mental well-being. The right amount will look different for every pet.
