There's a moment right before you put your foot in the stirrup where your whole body quietly decides how the ride is going to go. Most of us never notice it.
You walk up to the mounting block, your mind already three strides ahead — is he going to spook, am I going to freeze — and without meaning to, your breath goes high and shallow. And here's the thing: your horse feels all of it before you're even in the saddle.
Horses read our nervous systems to survive. So when your body is bracing for something to go wrong, he reads danger — and now there are two nervous systems feeding each other's worry.
The fix is smaller than you'd think. One breath. Not a big dramatic one — just an exhale that's longer than the inhale. A slow exhale nudges the calming side of your nervous system online. And when you settle, he settles.
Try it at the block tomorrow. Breathe all the way out, slow, before you gather your reins. 🤍
I made a free Pre-Ride Reset you can keep on your phone for exactly this moment — it's on my website: www.beyondbreathandbridle.com
