🐶🧠 Fun Fact Friday

Dogs don’t just recognize words — they can distinguish intent.

Brain imaging studies show dogs process what you say and how you say it in different areas of the brain, similar to humans.

So yes… your dog knows when you’re lying about “just one more minute.” 😅

🌸🐾 Spring into Preventive Care 🐾🌸
May is the perfect time to make sure your pet is protected for the warmer months ahead.

As temperatures rise, so do the risks of fleas, ticks, and heartworm—all of which can cause serious health issues if left unchecked. Staying up to date on preventive care now helps your pet enjoy a safer, itch-free summer.

If you have questions about parasite prevention or it’s time to schedule an exam, the team at Healthy Pets of West Columbus is here to help keep your pet healthy all season long.

Dogs actually have a special muscle above their eyes that helps them make those irresistible “puppy dog eyes.” 🥹
Wolves don’t have it—it developed as dogs evolved alongside humans.

And yes… it’s working. Every time.💙

🐾❤️ Today Is National Rescue Dog Day ❤️🐾

Today, we’re celebrating the incredible impact of rescue dogs and the second chances they deserve. National Rescue Dog Day shines a light on the millions of dogs in shelters waiting for loving furever homes — and the unconditional love they bring once they find them.

Even small actions can have a big impact on the lives of rescue dogs:
🐶 Consider adopting a dog from a local shelter
🦴 Donate supplies like food, toys, blankets, or funds
🐕 Volunteer your time to walk, care for, or socialize shelter dogs
📣 Share your rescue story and help spread the word

At Healthy Pets of West Columbus, we’re proud to support rescue pets and the families who open their hearts to them. Thank you for helping give these amazing dogs the lives they deserve. 💙

🐱👀 Why Does My Cat Stare at Me? Is This Normal? 👀🐱

If your cat locks eyes with you—on the couch, while you’re sleeping, or when you walk through the door—you’re not alone. And yes, it’s usually completely normal!

Cats use staring as a way to:
• Show affection (especially with a slow blink 😻)
• Observe and stay curious
• Ask for something like food or attention
• Focus while in “hunting mode”
• Relax and zone out

⚠️ When to check in with your vet:
If staring is paired with signs like aggression, hiding, limping, excessive vocalizing, or dilated pupils, it could signal discomfort or stress.

At Healthy Pets, we’re always here to help you understand your pet’s behaviors and spot when something may need attention. If you ever have concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out.

🐶💛 May 14th Is International Chihuahua Appreciation Day! 💛🐶

Today, Healthy Pets is celebrating the mighty pups with big personalities—Chihuahuas! From their loyal nature to their larger-than-life attitudes, these little dogs have a special way of stealing hearts.

Whether they’re snuggled in a blanket or strutting their stuff, Chihuahuas remind us that size doesn’t define spirit. 💫

Share a photo of your Chihuahua in the comments—we’d love to celebrate with you!
