H5 BIRD FLU ALERT – NORTHERN BEACHES
The NSW Government has confirmed a case of H5 bird flu in a greater crested tern at Warriewood.
H5 bird flu is a highly contagious viral disease that mainly spreads between birds through direct contact with infected animals, droppings or bodily fluids, as well as contaminated surfaces, water and equipment.
What should you do if you see sick or dead wildlife?
🚫 Do not touch sick or dead birds or wildlife.
📸 If safe to do so, take a photo or video and note the location.
📞 Report multiple sick or dead birds or animals to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
🐕 Keep pets away from sick or dead wildlife and avoid feeding wild birds.

Please do not bring sick wildlife into the clinic unless you have spoken with one of our team first. This allows us to safely triage the animal, put appropriate biosecurity measures in place, and determine the best course of action or referral if required.
For pet birds and backyard chickens, good biosecurity is important. Keep wild birds away from poultry, feed and water, maintain clean enclosures and monitor your birds closely for signs of illness.
