Do you know the many uses of your cats' claws?

Not only do cats use their claws to defend themselves, but they also use them to play, hunt and climb!

Scratching on surfaces is a cat's version of "self-care", as it keeps their claws from growing too long and can be used as stress relief!
They also use scratching as a method of communication, as it provides a visual indicator as well as a scent.
The scent is created by the special glands between their toes that helps them communicate the boundaries between territories.

And when they make biscuits on your lap?
Kneading is a behaviour from kittenhood that shows they're content and relaxed.
If your cat's little claws dig in too much during this quality time, try putting a blanket down between you.

We asked our wonderful clinic assistant Sarah to write a poem for the clinic.
See if you can guess who it is about! 👀

Poem below! ⬇🕊

Her Royal Highness

I am a vicious creature. I hunt by the light.

My coat, a dark star, lets me disappear from sight.

Animal grace; I am tricky, I move like night.

Clever me; my prey are not so bright.

Swift as a bird, I ensnare the feathered snake.

Window-winged creatures quiver and quake.

To flutter too close; a fatal mistake.

Beware my ekekek; your life I will take.

These full-bellied pleasures I dream;

Of biscuits and butter and chicken and cream.

My fantasies, you see, have a common theme.

As I lay in my nest of sun's gentle beam.

At great risk to my reputation, a secret.

If only you’d promise that you can keep it.

To my instincts, I cannot submit.

My hunt, I fail, to fully commit.

The truth is, I do not forage; I demand.

In my kingdom, there are many I command.

My relentless pestering, they cannot withstand.

Feed me when I order you; this is my land.

I am beauty, I am elegance, my coat is so clean.

This is my castle, and I am your queen.

Over many subjects, I reign supreme.

Behold, but do not touch, or I shall scream!

👁️🐈‍⬛Vet Vision glaucoma screening🐈‍⬛👁️

Glaucoma is common in specific breeds like Burmese, Abyssinian, Siamese and others, and often goes unnoticed until it’s too late.

Vet Vision are launching a proactive screening initiative to identify sub-clinical and early-stage glaucoma in high-risk feline patients.
Their goal is to identify cases at an earlier stage of disease progression and to collect regional data so they can better understand the disease pathogenesis, and educate our community on the increasing incidence of Feline glaucoma.

This would allow the Vet Vision team to move from reactive treatments to proactive care: identifying early signs so they can use sight-saving surgeries to keep your cat’s eyes healthy and bright.

During this limited-time drive, patients will receive a comprehensive evaluation for a discounted fee of $250.

The screening includes:

🐈‍⬛👁️ Pressure Check (Tonometry): A gentle test to measure the internal pressure of the eye.

🐈‍⬛👁️ Drainage Assessment (Gonioscopy): A specialised look at the eye’s "drainage angles" to see if they are clear or blocked.

🐈‍⬛👁️ Advanced Microscopic Exam: Using high-powered magnification to find
tiny signs of inflammation or fluid issues.

🐈‍⬛👁️ Regional Health Study: We securely log your cat's results to help us understand why glaucoma is becoming more common in specific cat breeds.

If you're interested in participating in the glaucoma drive, please call and book with Vet Vision's reception team directly.

POV: You are Frankie. You arrive for your desexing procedure and decide to strike a pose for your nurses!😸

Frankie kept the whole clinic entertained today with his dramatic stretches, upside-down lounging, and questionable yoga techniques. Safe to say he handled his visit like a true professional… eventually 💙🤪
