🦅 Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) - What You Need to Know
Every year, BVECCS provides free emergency care to thousands of injured and orphaned native wildlife patients. With bird flu now detected on our shores, we want to help do our part to keep our wildlife safe.
Avian influenza is a serious viral disease affecting wild and domestic birds. It can spread rapidly through wild bird populations, especially where birds gather in large numbers, and has caused significant mortality events overseas and in Australia's sub-Antarctic territories.
The risk to the general public remains low, but please do NOT handle sick or dead wild birds.

🐤 Have a sick pet bird?
If they become unwell (especially with breathing difficulties, lethargy or neurological signs) please call us to discuss before bringing them in. This lets our team prepare infection control measures to keep all our patients safe.
