Our Pet of the Day is Zahli 💜

Zahli is a 9yo Cavoodle who visited us for an abdominal ultrasound with Dr Nicole after she developed pancreatitis.

Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, which can be very painful and often causes reduced appetite, vomiting, nausea and tummy pain. Many pets need supportive care, including pain relief and intravenous fluids, while they recover.

Zahli spent the day with us receiving fluids, lots of TLC, and plenty of comfy blankets. Even though she wasn't feeling her best, she remained such a brave little girl and kept rewarding us with gentle tail wags throughout the day 🥹🐾

We hope you're back to feeling like yourself soon, sweet Zahli! 💜

Our Pet of the Day is the darling little Gypsy, who visited us today for an echocardiogram (echo) of her heart. She was such a sweetie pie and enjoyed plenty of cuddles and attention from our team! 🩷

An echocardiogram (echo) is an ultrasound of your pet's heart. It allows us to see the heart in motion and assess its structure and function in a non-invasive, painless way. It provides valuable information that cannot be obtained from a physical examination alone, helping us diagnose and monitor heart conditions and create the best treatment plan for your pet's heart health.

We're incredibly lucky to have the amazing Dr Victoria and Dr Charlotte on our team, allowing us to offer these advanced diagnostic services right here in the clinic!

This is Charlie, a 1y2m DSH and one of the sweetest cats you'll ever meet ❤️

At Charlie's annual health check his vet noticed very inflamed areas of gum tissue and overgrowth of the oral mucosa. His dedicated owner booked him in for a dental procedure straight away.

What did we find? 🦷
Dental X-rays revealed around 25% bone loss around the lower teeth and loss of the periodontal ligament around many teeth, particularly the upper back teeth.

These findings are highly suspicious for:
• Feline gingivostomatitis - a painful inflammatory condition causing severe inflammation of the gums and tissues in the mouth.
• Tooth resorption (ORLs) - where the body's own cells begin breaking down the tooth structure, a common and painful condition in cats.

Unfortunately, many of Charlie's teeth are beyond saving and will need to be extracted. While losing teeth may seem concerning, cats generally cope very well after extractions and are often much more comfortable once painful teeth are removed.

Because Charlie requires extensive dental work, he had a staged dental procedure. One side of his mouth was treated today, with the other side booked in a few weeks. This helps reduce anaesthetic time, allows for a smoother recovery and lets us monitor healing between procedures.

Everything went very well today, with Charlie's pre-anaesthetic blood tests coming back all clear. He had a very smooth anaesthetic, and he was the bravest boy throughout the whole process 🌟

His owner was happy for us to share his story as a reminder that cats are experts at hiding dental discomfort. Regular health checks and dental examinations can make a huge difference to their comfort and wellbeing.

We can definitely see why Charlie is so loved. Such a lovely boy, and we're looking forward to seeing him back soon for the next stage of his treatment. ❤️🐱

Pet of the day: Dora and Esme! 💕

These adorable Pug sisters, Dora and Esme, are both 8 years young and full of personality! These sweet girls have been part of our clinic family for many years; it's always a joy to see these two walk through our doors. They enjoyed plenty of treats, cuddles, and attention during their visit today, and were more than happy to soak up all the love from Nurse Meg and Megan on reception.

It's always a pleasure to see these gorgeous girls brighten our day with their sweet faces and wagging tails! It's patients like Dora and Esme that make our days so special. 💕
