Found a baby bird? Here's what to check 👇
⚠️ First, check from a safe distance. If the bird appears sick or is dead, avoid contact and follow the H5 bird flu advice below.
🐣 Feathers: Does it have developing flight feathers? If it only has fluffy down or no feathers, it's a nestling and needs help straight away - it can't keep itself warm.
📢 Calling: Is it making a noise?
👀 Alert: Bright and responsive?
👉 Perching: Can it perch on its own?
🪽 Wings: Does it appear to be using both wings normally?
🌳 Safety: Is it in safe area?
✅ All YESES? The baby bird can possibly be reunited with its parents.
❌ Any NOS? It may need help from a vet, experienced wildlife carer or our RSPCA Wildlife Hospital.
