🌞🐾 IT’S GETTING WARMER, QUEENSLAND! AND SO IS THE ITCH! 🐾🌿

As our Queensland weather gets warmer and more humid, you might notice some of your furry family members getting a little more itchy and scratchy! 🐶🐱

Warmer, humid conditions can contribute to skin irritation and flare-ups of allergies in our pets. You might notice your pet:

🐾 Scratching or licking more than usual
🐾 Chewing at their paws
🐾 Developing red, irritated skin
🐾 Experiencing recurring ear irritation
🐾 Getting a little smelly or developing sore patches

While an occasional scratch is normal, persistent itching isn’t something your pet should have to live with! ❤️

If you’re noticing any of these signs, it might be time to book a skin check with our team. Getting on top of skin issues early can help keep your pet comfortable and prevent things from becoming more troublesome.

Our team at Ferny Grove Vet is here to help your fur babies feel their best, whatever the Queensland weather throws at them! ☀️🐾

📞 Give us a call on 07 3851 3633 if your pet is getting a little itchier than usual.

💚🐾 VET NURSE AWARENESS WEEK 🐾💚

Behind every vet nurse is a heart that feels it all. ❤️

Vet nursing is a career filled with incredible highs and some heartbreaking lows. It’s the happy dances when a patient recovers, the relief when a worried family gets good news, the cuddles, the kisses, the wagging tails and the little victories that make every day worthwhile. 🐶🐱

But there are also the hard days. The moments when we wish we could do more, the patients we fight so hard for, the families we hold close, and the tears we shed when we have to say goodbye.

We love them, we worry about them, we hurt for them, and we cry for them when they cross that rainbow bridge. 🌈🐾

Because to us, they are never just a patient. They are someone’s whole world. They are family. They are the little personalities who steal our hearts, the brave souls who fight through the toughest days, and the beautiful faces we never forget.

Every pet that walks through our doors leaves a little paw print on our hearts. Some stay with us for a lifetime, and others leave a mark that we carry forever.

And through every high and every low, every laugh and every tear, your babies are our reasons. 💚

To all the vet nurses out there who give so much of themselves to care for the animals who can’t speak for themselves — this week is for you. 🩺🐾

And to our beautiful clients, thank you for trusting us with your precious family members, for letting us love them alongside you, and for allowing us to be part of their stories.

Happy Vet Nurse Awareness Week. 💚

From all of us at Ferny Grove Vet — your babies are our reasons. 🐾

PUBLIC HOLIDAY REMINDER 🐾

Just a little reminder that Ferny Grove Vet will be CLOSED on Monday 5 October for the King’s Birthday public holiday. 💚

We’ll be back to our normal hours on Tuesday 6 October and look forward to seeing you and your fur babies then!

🚨 If your pet becomes unwell or has an emergency while we’re closed:
QVS Stafford Pet Emergency is available 24/7, including public holidays.

🏥 QVS Stafford
📍 45 Hayward Street, Stafford
📞 07 3359 0777
🕐 Open 24 hours, 7 days a week

🕷️ And a little tick reminder!

Ticks are very prevalent at the moment, and we’re seeing far too many pets affected. Please take a moment to check that your pets are up to date with their tick prevention and keep an eye out for any signs of tick paralysis.

Ticks can become life-threatening very quickly, so prevention really is the best protection. ❤️🐶🐱

Have a safe and happy long weekend from all of us at Ferny Grove Vet! 💚

Today we had the most beautiful boy in for treatment. 💚

Unfortunately, a paralysis tick had latched on, and this little guy was feeling the full effects of just how dangerous paralysis ticks can be.

We had plenty of quiet moments of cuddles too… because when they’re feeling low, a little extra love is always needed — and always available here. 🥰🐾

Please make sure your fur babies are up to date with their tick prevention. There are far too many ticks around at the moment, and things can turn very serious, very quickly.

Stay safe, everyone! 💚🐶

🐾 BIRD FLU & YOUR PETS 🐦

You may have seen the recent news about H5N1 bird flu in Australia or received texts from your pet insurance company mentioning it. While the current risk to our dogs and cats is very low, it’s still important to take a few simple precautions.

❤️ Help protect your pets by:
• Keeping dogs on a lead, particularly around beaches, wetlands, lakes and areas where wild birds gather
• Keeping cats safely contained and limiting their contact with wild birds
• Keeping food and water bowls where wild birds can’t access them
• Never allowing your pet to touch or eat sick or dead birds or other wildlife
• Avoiding raw animal products where possible

Signs to watch for include:
👀 Loss of appetite
😴 Unusual tiredness or lethargy
🤧 Coughing, sneezing or discharge from the eyes/nose
🫁 Difficulty breathing
🧠 Tremors, poor coordination or other unusual neurological signs

Bird flu infection in companion animals remains rare, and these symptoms can occur with many other illnesses. However, if your pet becomes unwell and has recently had contact with wild birds, poultry or wildlife, please let us know when booking your appointment.

🚨 If you find a sick or dead wild bird, don’t touch it and keep your pets away. Record the location and report it to the Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.

We’ll continue to keep an eye on the latest advice and keep our FG Vet Family informed. 💚
