Bullet's first hydrotherapy session! 🐾 -vet-cattery

Our sweet boy Bullet has been developing arthritis, so we've started him on hydrotherapy at Fourways Vet to keep him comfy, mobile and happy.

For his first session, Dr Dom gave him a gentle massage to warm up those stiff joints, laser therapy to ease inflammation and pain and then some laps in their indoor pool.

Being the total water baby that he is, Bullet absolutely loved the pool! Though we have to admit, the treats might have motivated him just a little bit more than the swimming 😉

Hydrotherapy is amazing for arthritis because the warm water supports his weight while taking pressure off his joints, improves circulation, builds strength without strain and helps keep him flexible and moving with less pain.This is just the beginning of Bullet's journey and we can't wait to see how he progresses.

🐍 SNAKE SEASON IS HERE - Please read if you walk dogs!

With the warmer weather, our slithery friends are waking up and coming out to bask. That means more chance of bumping into them on walks, in the garden and on hiking trails 🚵🏻‍♂️

To keep your dogs safe:

- Keep dogs on-lead and stick to open paths - don't let them sniff in long grass, fynbos or under rocks
- Walk during cooler hours and use a torch if walking at dusk/dawn
- Never let your dog approach, bark at or try to play with a snake. Most bites happen when dogs (or people) try to interact.
- Keep your garden clear of rubble, wood piles and leftover food that attracts rodents
- If you see a snake, stay calm, keep dogs far away and contact your local snake remover. Do not try and harm or catch it!

If your dog is bitten:

- Stay calm, carry your dog (don't let them run as movement can spread venom).
- Take a photo of the snake from a SAFE distance if possible.
- Get to your nearest vet / vet hospital IMMEDIATELY. Do not cut, suck, tourniquet or apply ice.

Important anti-venom info:

There has been a national shortage of SAVP anti-venom as local production collapsed. Stock is very limited and not every facility has it. Always call ahead.

Mazzy lives by one simple rule: to never let anything hamper or damper her energetic spirit! While she may take a little time to warm up to new people, once you're part of her inner circle, you've made a friend for life 🫂

Meet Saffron, our spicy little queen 👑

Saffron is that girl. The one with attitude, confidence, and a whole lot of personality packed into a small, mischievous body. She came into our care as a devoted mama and absolutely nailed motherhood. Raising her kittens with love, patience, and pride. Once her babies were old enough to head off to their forever homes, Saffron decided her job was done… and that sharing space with lots of other cats was not part of her long-term plan.

When introduced to the big enclosure, Saffron made her feelings very clear 🙃 Any kitty that wandered too close got a quick reminder of personal boundaries, which earned her a few “time-out” sessions in a smaller side enclosure so she could see the others and (hopefully) learn that they weren’t all terrible. We tried again… and again… and again. Eventually, Saffron agreed to coexist, emphasis on tolerate.

She now lives out with the others, mostly ignoring them, occasionally giving “the look,” and making it clear she prefers cats at a respectful distance. With people though? Oh, she’s a delight. Saffron is affectionate, playful, and full of cheek. Walk past a chair she’s hiding under, and you may find your ankle gently grabbed 😆 All in the name of a game.

She loves interaction, attention, and being the centre of someone’s world. Saffron would be happiest as an only cat, or possibly with one very laid-back feline who understands that she makes the rules. Too many cats are just not her vibe. What she truly wants is a human to call her own someone who will adore her, laugh at her antics, play her games, and let her be the star of the show.

Meet Gnocchi: The Resilient Comfort Food Cat!🍝

Born 9 December 2021 and rescued on Valentine's Day 2022, Gnocchi spent an incredible 1,307 days waiting in the shelter for his happy ending. On 13 September 2025, someone finally said "yes!" Sadly, it was a case of "till death do us part"—after just one beautiful month in his new home, Gnocchi’s beloved person passed away 🕊️

The Vibe: The Ultimate Feline Diplomat

Gnocchi had to return to the cattery, but this sensitive, trusting soul didn't hide. He immediately fitted right back into the enclosure, headbutting all his old feline friends to let them know he was back! He is a quirky, witty and resilient work of art 🖼️

Personality & Quirks:

• The Master Hunter: Gnocchi has a hilarious streak where he actively "hunts" and preys on food pouches! He will stealthily swipe them, use both paws to professionally open the pouch and squeeze out every last drop.
• The Ultimate Feline Fan: He ESPECIALLY adores other cats. Gnocchi acts as a furry welcoming committee and speaks fluent "meow" to all his roommates.
• A Trusting Treasure: Despite his recent heartbreak, his loving spirit is untouched. He is extremely sociable with humans and ready to share his big heart again.

Ideal Home:

Gnocchi needs a loving home that appreciates his deep sensitivity (and keeps food pouches locked in cupboards!). Because he is the ultimate cat’s cat, he must have other feline companions to snuggle and headbump with 😻
