💜🐾 Volunteer HR Consultant Needed – PlumPets 🐾💜

PlumPets is looking for a volunteer HR consultant to assist our organisation with various human resources requirements and processes.

If you have HR experience and would like to contribute your skills to support animal welfare, we would love to hear from you.

Whether you can assist with policies, staff matters, compliance, volunteer management, or general HR guidance, your expertise could make a valuable difference.

MEET SWEET MAMA EVIE & HER 3 KITTENS 🐈🐈🐈 - Cape Town

We are doing another appeal for Evie and her kittens 🙏💜 we don't want them growing up in the shelters.

On the 24 January 2026, Paulette's Body Stress Release practitioner, Evande, heard a cat crying and tracked the sound to her neighbour. Her neighbour said it wasn't their cat, so Evande suggested that they take her to PlumPets to be scanned. The neighbour wasn't interested in helping and instead wanted to call law enforcement. So Evande got a cat carrier from Paulette and brought the cat round to Plumstead Animal Hospital to be scanned.

On examination, we found the cat was female, heavily pregnant and quite underweight. She unfortunately had no collar or microchip. Rather than leaving her to be collected by law enforcement and taken to SPCA, we squeezed her in at the shelter and named her Evie.

Evie gave birth to 6 kittens at the shelter. Sadly one was stillborn, one had swimmers legs and one was much smaller than the others. We found an experienced bottle Mom from another organisation to take on the tiny kitten and the one with swimmers legs. We kept the mommy and 3 kittens.

We tried desperately to find a foster for the Mom and her kittens, but they have had to stay at the shelter and we have put them in bigger cages as they grow, to give them more space.

Evie has been a very attentive Mommy. We have started to separate the kittens for brief periods, but she will call for them after a while. The kittens are 8 weeks old now and eating dry food and using the litter tray. They are about to have their first vaccinations. They have all been given flea and worn treatment and Evie tested negative for feline Aids and Leukemia. So they are all ready for their forever homes.

We would like to home the 2 ginger boys together as they are quite bonded. Then the smallest kitten, also a male is a white and ginger mix and he is the most attached to the Mom, so we would ideally home them together.

💜 In Loving Memory of Paulette Bousfield 💜

The Rescue is Life family is deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Paulette Bousfield, founder of PlumPets Animal Shelter.

15 years of friendship, rescuing, tears and laughter. We will miss you.

Paulette dedicated her life to giving abandoned, neglected and unwanted animals a second chance. Through her compassion, determination and unwavering commitment, she changed the lives of countless cats and dogs over the past two decades. She was a force of nature in the Rescue World

Her impact extended far beyond the walls of PlumPets, touching the hearts of rescuers, volunteers, adopters and animal lovers throughout our community.

Animal rescue is not simply a job; it is a calling. Paulette answered that calling every single day, often sacrificing her own time, comfort and resources to ensure animals in need were safe, cared for and loved.

Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband, Dr Duncan Stevens, the PlumPets staff, volunteers and everyone whose lives were touched by her kindness and dedication.

The rescue community has lost one of its most devoted advocates, but her legacy will live on through every animal she saved and every life she inspired.

Rest peacefully, Paulette. Thank you for your years of service, sacrifice and love. Your work mattered, and you will never be forgotten. 🕊️💜🐾

Many people have asked what we need and these are our food requirements:

🐶 Food for dogs: PnP No Name Dog food (8kg) - for Astro & Tokai in kennels, and Montego Karoo pouches - various flavours
🐱 Food for Cats: Pampers pouches, PnP No Name Meatloaf Cat food, Pamper Tins (Chunky Meat or Cuts in Gravy) - various flavours.

(We do need specific food for the animals as changing diets can lead to diarrhoea, which we do not want the staff to have to manage at this time).

We also need:
🐾 Bleach
🐾 Sunlight 2in1 Auto Washing Liquid

You can drop off any donations at the Plumstead Animal Hospital vet shop on Basil Road in Plumstead.

💜 🐶🐱 Dear PlumPets Community 🐱🐶💜

We are overwhelmed by your support at this difficult time as we try to navigate the loss of Paulette Bousfield earlier this week. We thank you for the outpouring of love and the donations we have received.

We want to reassure everyone that the shelter is fully operational. There is NO plan to move any of the dogs or cats to the SPCA. We may need to have other no-kill shelters and rescue organizations help with rehoming some of the animals in future. We have had other rescues and friends of PlumPets reach out to assist and some families offer to adopt for which we are so grateful. Duncan and the staff are dedicated to homing Paulette's animals in the way she would have wanted and continuing to run the shelter to her high standards.

💜 ADOPT /FOSTER :
We have a new dedicated number for any offers to foster or adopt cats and dogs. The number is 073 654 1838. Vicky from the staff at Plumstead Animal Hospital will be overseeing this process. She has worked closely with Paulette for some time. Families offering to foster or adopt an animal will receive a questionnaire to complete and then a homecheck will be organised. We appreciate your understanding that this process will take a little time 🙏

The PlumPets book team will be at Down to EARTH market on 6 June with another great selection of pre-loved books 📖

Inspite of Paulette's passing, we still need funds to keep covering costs for the dogs and cats remaining at the shelter 😔 and extra staff needed to run this in her regrettable absence. We will be continuing with our fundraising efforts and hope the community will come out and support us 💜🐕📚🐈💜

We are deeply touched by the outpouring of love at this difficult time. Many people have asked how they can help. We are overwhelmed with the many things that need to be arranged and sorted at the shelter and ask for your understanding.

Our greatest need at this time is financial, we need to cover costs and wages to keep the shelter running while we try home as many of the animals as we can.
