Where is leptospirosis diagnosed?
Previously considered a disease confined to rural areas, this is no longer the case. The risk for leptospirosis is year round in all 50 U.S. states and around the globe. Leptospirosis is now diagnosed in dogs (it is rare in cats) in suburban and urban neighborhoods, including apartment complexes, condominiums and gated communities. Bacteria can survive in the environment for months. It is more common in spring, summer and fall. Heightened risk for leptospirosis outbreaks can occur after heavy rains or flooding.
The best way to protect your pets and family from serious diseases such as Leptospirosis is to stay up-to-date on infection instance in your community.
