🖤 Harlem’s Story: Advanced Emergency Care in Action 🖤

On 11/28, Harlem arrived at Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services after being struck by a car traveling approximately 40 mph. He was in respiratory distress, and diagnostic imaging confirmed a traumatic diaphragmatic hernia, with abdominal organs displaced into his chest — a life-threatening emergency requiring immediate, advanced surgical intervention.

Due to the severity of his injuries and the rapid progression of his condition, Harlem needed prompt stabilization and surgery. Our medical team moved quickly to prepare him for a complex and highly technical repair, performed by Dr. Raspante with the support of our skilled surgical and nursing team, including Kelly, Emma, and Amanda.

The surgery was successful, and Harlem remained hospitalized for several days for intensive monitoring and supportive care, including oxygen therapy. He was discharged home to his loving family and has continued to do incredibly well. This week, Harlem returned for his two-week post-operative recheck and staple removal — happy, comfortable, and breathing easily 🐾✨

Cases like Harlem’s highlight the level of emergency and surgical care our team is prepared to provide, even under challenging circumstances. We are so proud of the collaboration, skill, and dedication shown by everyone involved — and grateful to Harlem’s family for trusting REVS during such a critical moment.

Harlem, you are one special boy 💙

✨ Happy Holidays from the REVS Team! ✨

We hope you and your families (furry ones included!) have a safe, cozy, and joyful holiday season. As you celebrate, please remember to keep a close eye on your pets around all the festive food—those tempting table scraps can sometimes lead to upset tummies or more serious reactions.

If your pet finds themselves in a bit of holiday trouble, we’re here for you 24/7. Don’t hesitate to give us a call. ❤️🐾

💙 Celebrating Veterinary Technicians Week 💙

Behind every patient at REVS is a team of Licensed Veterinary Technicians — educated, credentialed professionals who have completed years of schooling, passed state licensing exams, and dedicate their lives to animal care.

Their expertise, compassion, and calm under pressure make emergency medicine possible.

We also want to recognize the incredible technicians at our partner clinics across the region — those who triage, comfort, and collaborate with us every day to help pets in need.

To all veterinary technicians — at REVS and beyond — thank you for your skill, dedication, and heart. You are the backbone of veterinary medicine. 💙
