The Animal Health Clinic of Funkstown is a full-service, privately owned veterinary hospital serving dogs and cats throughout Washington County and the surrounding communities. In 2026, longtime veterinarians Dr. Tara Cumley and Dr. Marie Sausen proudly became the owners of the practice after years of caring for generations of our patients and their families. They are honored to continue the hospital's longstanding tradition of providing compassionate, personalized veterinary care that was established by founder Dr. Virginia Scrivener when she opened the practice in 1993. Veterinary medicine is constantly evolving, and we believe we should be evolving too. That's why our team is committed to lifelong learning, continuing education, and evidence-based medicine. Every day, we challenge ourselves to ask a simple question: Is there a better way to care for our patients? That commitment drives us to continually improve the care, comfort, and experience of every pet we see. Our commitment to continuous improvement is reflected in the standards we choose to follow. We are proud to be an AAHA Accredited Hospital, a Certified Cat Friendly Practice, and a Certified Fear Free Veterinary Practice. These achievements are more than certifications, they represent our commitment to accountability, education, patient safety, and providing exceptional veterinary care. We don't pursue these standards to collect accolades; we pursue them because they challenge us to become better for the pets and families who trust us. As an independently owned veterinary hospital, we value relationships just as much as medicine. We believe great veterinary care starts with listening, educating, and partnering with pet owners to make informed decisions together. Whether your pet is here for a routine wellness visit, surgery, diagnostics, dental care, or treatment for a medical condition, you can expect a team that treats your family with kindness, honesty, and respect. For more than three decades, our community has trusted us to care for the pets they love. We are grateful for that trust, and we promise to continue earning it by never losing sight of who we are, never stopping our pursuit of better medicine, and never forgetting that, here, pets truly are family.
