Your nightly puppy obstacle course run. We made the water deeper and I had already fed them some food from other training so they weren't near as motivated to charge through everything.
I wanted to do it on a partly full belly to see who had more drive to go through regardless of the level of reward at the end.

We have decided to start taking bets on puppy races. If you want to get in on the action, it'll be through draftkings. Please, if you have a gambling issue, know this is a complete lie, and don't try to bet on these. You're welcome to with your friends. My kids and I pick a winner every night. Most of the time, I would be losing money.

We added the water feature, and I couldn't be happier with how the puppies handled it. Tomorrow, we might add another obstacle known to my 7 year old as "punching bags."

Doing the obstacle course with the puppies has been such a blast. We added a new obstacle last night, and I'm really excited to see how they handle it.
If you are thinking about doing one, here are some tips I have learned.
Don't start with a bunch of obstacles. Start with nothing. Get the puppies going back and forth just in the lane. We added the zigzag section first, then the bottles, then the tires. Tonight, we put in a water feature.
Keep the obstacle breed and age appropriate. The first time they hit the water bottles, NONE of the puppies left that place because it was the coolest thing ever, and they all just chewed on bottles and packed them around.
Avoid things they can jump off of and injure a shoulder.
Have fun and involve the kids. My 7 year old "engineered" the whole course. We had to really dial back some of his obstacles.
Keep it cheap. You don't need to build crazy elaborate things. Just get creative with stuff in the shop or garage.

While mom and the boys are off kicking soccer balls. My kennel hand and I are getting after it! I am very lucky to have such good help! We even planted around a hundred trees and bushes around the kennel yesterday. All the dogs got a pile of treats as well since I left the bag within reach of my cute little kennel hand.

Kids and puppies are some of the funnest parts of having dogs.

These puppies just started on mush yesterday and it's wild how much they grow when you add in extra calories compared to a straight milk diet. This week we will have them outside exploring the world chasing bugs and playing on obstacles.

Huge shout out to all the moms regardless if you're a human or an animal. Taking care of kids is so much work. Dogg has managed 12 puppies pretty much on her own. I haven't had to supplement feed any of them. I have just had to take care of Dogg, and she's taken care of the rest. She keeps them clean, safe, and fed. That's winning as a mom in a nutshell.

The most important thing I tell everyone when talking about picking a dog.

Find someone who hunts what you hunt and the way you hunt it because they'll be trying to make a better dog for that job.

I love to hunt everything. That's why I have a versatile breed. I run drahthaar's and will likely always keep a few around because they can do everything. I have one dog that can point upland game, retrieve waterfowl, tree fured game, track wounded animals, kill varmits, track down my feral kids, and at the end of all that hang out in the house and play dress up.

When I am breeding a dog, that's what I'm trying to get a better tool for.

We had our first puppy open its eyes yesterday. It won't be long until they all can see what's going on around them. They are all growing like weeds and getting more mobile. Dogg had been the absolute best mom I could ask for.
