Moonshine has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈💔
Affectionately called Moonie, this sweet stray from Murphysboro, IL, joined our Cat Cafe nearly a year ago after testing positive for feline leukemia (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). Many of you followed his journey as he faced each hurdle with quiet resilience.
After losing his appetite and developing a fever, Moonie was diagnosed with feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). Though treatment gave him brighter days and renewed playfulness, his compromised immune system made recovery unlikely. Foster pawrent Tali and her FeLV+ kitty, Baby Bear, welcomed him into their home, where he spent six love-filled months as a hospice cat.
Tali shared that Moonie adored games of “stick” and “string,” tap danced before every sip of water, and somehow managed to sleep with his head anywhere but a pillow. He was quirky, affectionate, and deeply cherished by his human and feline companions. The photos and updates we received showed us just how much comfort, dignity, and love surrounded him in the twilight of his life.
On his last day, Moonie enjoyed endless Churu treats from Tali and visits from our team, wishing him peace on his final journey. We’re so grateful to Tali, Baby Bear, and everyone who loved him along the way.
Fly high, Moonshine. We’ll carry your memory with us always, as we continue our work to advocate and care for all cats.
