🌫️ Poor Air Quality & Your Pets 🐾

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires is affecting our area, and if you're feeling it, your pets may be too. Wildfire smoke can irritate your pet's eyes and airways, so taking a few simple precautions can help keep them comfortable until air quality improves.

We've also emailed our clients with additional recommendations and supportive care tips.

🏠 Help Reduce Smoke Exposure:
• Keep windows and doors closed.
• Use a HEPA air purifier if available.
• Limit outdoor time to quick potty breaks and avoid strenuous activity.
• Make sure your pet always has access to fresh water.
• Swap long walks for indoor enrichment like puzzle toys, training games, scent work, or gentle play.
• Wash bedding if it has a smoke odor.

🚫 Avoid Additional Irritants:
• Candles
• Air fresheners
• Perfumes
• Scented cleaners
• Sprays
• Dryer sheets
• Minimize essential oils while smoke remains in the air.

👀 Watch for Signs of Smoke Irritation:
• Coughing
• Sneezing
• Watery or irritated eyes
• Increased fatigue
• Reluctance to exercise
• Changes in breathing

If your pet develops persistent or worsening respiratory signs, or has difficulty breathing, contact your veterinarian promptly.

Stay safe, and take extra care of your furry family members until the air quality improves. 💚🐾

❤️ A huge thank you to our wonderful patient and family for allowing us to share this unique case and help educate others about the many treatment options available in veterinary medicine.

🐾 Here are a few more photos of Pam hard at work!

This patient came to us with an aural (ear) hematoma—a pocket of blood that forms between the skin and cartilage of the ear flap. In select cases, medicinal leech therapy (hirudotherapy) can help relieve blood congestion, improve circulation, and support the healing process.
