🍂 HOT SPOT AWARENESS: Don’t Let Fall Weather Irritate Your Dog’s Skin! 🐾

Cooler weather doesn’t always mean the end of skin problems. Fall rain, wet grass, damp coats and trapped moisture can create the perfect environment for hot spots to develop... or make an existing irritated area worse.

What is a hot spot?
Hot spots are areas of inflamed, irritated skin that can appear quickly and become painful. Dogs may make them worse by repeatedly licking, chewing or scratching the area.

🔎 Signs to watch for:
• Red, inflamed or raw skin
• Moist, oozing or crusty areas
• Hair loss around the irritated spot
• Constant licking, chewing or scratching
• Tenderness or sensitivity
• An unpleasant odor in more severe cases

🌧️ Why can fall weather make them worse?
When your dog gets wet from rain, damp grass, swimming or outdoor adventures, moisture can become trapped against the skin, especially in dogs with thick or long coats. Thoroughly drying your dog after being outside can help keep their skin healthy.

⚠️ When should you call the vet?
Hot spots can spread quickly. If an area is getting larger, painful, has discharge or odor, or your dog just can't leave it alone, give us a call. Some cases may need prescription medication or treatment for an underlying cause such as allergies, fleas or infection.

🍂 Fall Allergies Aren’t Just for Humans! 🐾
Is your dog suddenly itching, licking, chewing their paws, or scratching more than usual? Seasonal allergens like grasses, weeds, pollen, and other environmental triggers can make fall an uncomfortable time for allergy-prone dogs.
Cytopoint® injections may be able to help!
