SPOTLIGHT ON THE KUBAI LAB. Dr. Melissa Kabai's research group focuses on treatment of infectious keratitis, specifically novel adjunctive therapies to minimize the need for topical antibiotics. Her research on UV-C light therapy is the first research in veterinary medicine to report the effectiveness against common microbes that affect companion animals. Kubai and other College of Veterinary Medicine research labs will be highlighted during the CVM Research Week Sept. 14-17.

A new shockwave therapy unit is now available in the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital's Canine Rehabilitation Center for dogs suffering from from such conditions as hip dysplasia, arthritis, tendonitis and ligament injuries. The unit will provide a non-invasive treatment method that will promote healing, pain reduction and improved mobility.

RADIATION GRAD. Keegan, a 13-year-old domestic short hair, is the most recent graduate of the Hixson-Lied Small Animal Hospital's Oncology Service. Keegan had two surgeries in the last year in his home state of Minnesota for a brain tumor that was causing compression. Afterwards he completed radiation therapy at Iowa State. During his daily treatment protocol, Keegan boarded at Iowa State where he was cared for by fourth-year veterinary students, technicians and doctors who all fell in love with his spunky personality.
