Every four-legged friend I have owned has taught me and reinforced the importance of training and understanding dog behaviour to live a happy and well-balanced life with our canine companions. Having previously vol

unteered as an instructor at my local obedience club and competing successfully in dog sports, including high level obedience for over seven years, what once seemed pass and parcel in responsible dog ownership, quickly became my purpose! However, it was my Finnish Lapphund, Koda, who motivated me to delve deeper into the world of canine behaviour as I emBARKed on the journey to understand his reactivity, improve his wellbeing and strengthen our bond by helping him work through his triggers and anxieties. My experiences with owning a reactive dog, along with my journey into dog sports and helping others on a casual basis with their own difficulties led me to enrol in a Certificate III in Dog Behaviour & Training through the National Dog Trainers Federation (NDTF), to expand my knowledge and skill base and enable me to help others live happy and harmonious lives with their four-legged companions. Offering a variety of services, including behavioural training, pre and post-puppy consultations and one-on-one obedience, life skills and manners training, Paws at Play is here to help you work better with your dog. At Paws at Play, we believe in the power of food and play rewards and use modern LIMA (least invasive, minimally aversive) training methods that focus predominantly on a positive experience for dog and human alike to help your dog learn to make good choices. Miss Phoenix and myself were invited to the Royal Adelaide Show to do something a bit different, to be part of the DWD demo team.

I am so proud of my young girl Phoenix, she handled the big busy and noisy environment beautifully, a massive testament to her amazing temperament. ❤️

Why not try Scent Work for dogs!

Scent Work puts your dog’s number one asset - their nose - to work by teaching them to sniff out hidden odours (dog safe essential oils).

Sniffing helps to calm and tire your dogs brain, combining it with working with their person to seek out hidden odours has the added benefit of building a super strong relationship and build confidence in a fun and interactive way!

Great for dogs of all ages, from young puppies through to the senior members of the family, as well as all temperament types from the uber confident ones through to the nervous, life is a bit scary individuals, scent work can help build confidence in dogs of all ages and temperaments.

Location: we start in the comfort of your own home teaching the foundations. 🏡

When: I work one to one so we pick a time that is mutually convenient, I am available Monday to Friday during business hours with limited late afternoon and evening spots, these fill fast! ⏰

Cost: first session $60 which includes a mini odour kit to get you started, follow up sessions are $50 each and run for between 30-45 minutes depending on the individual dogs drive. 🐕

Servicing the southern hills and suburbs including the foothills, travel charges may apply for locations greater than 10km from Flagstaff Hill. 🚙

Another weekend, another trial, Scent Work Excellent Vehicles and Excellent Interiors. Miss Phoenix going 2 from 2 today with a lovely 3rd placing in Vehicles! 🥳

At not quite 2.5 years of age Phoenix is knocking on the door of Masters Vehicles and Masters Interior, needing only one more pass in each to be eligible - she is already eligible for Masters Containers and has her first pass.

Superstar describes this girl perfectly. ⭐️

Another weekend away trialing with the bestest girl, this time back at Barmera, SA competing in Tricks Intermediate and Dances with Dogs in Freestyle Starters.

We walked away with 5 out of 5 passes including our TK.I title, a 3rd placing - dropped out of placings in the first two tests for the first time ever due to Miss Loud Mouth losing points for barking 😂 - and then a 2nd and a 1st placing in DWD!! We are brand new to DWD so this came as a surprise as did our smashing scores. 😃

I am so lucky to have such an awesome team mate at my side. ❤️

Miss Phoenix at just 2 years and 5 months of age walked into only her second ANKC Scent Work Masters search today and walked back out with her very first MASTERS CONTAINERS PASS!! 🥳

I am so proud of this girl, she really is a one in a million teammate, the goodest and most brilliant girl, so spoiled with this dog, so incredibly proud. ❤️

Little bit slow sharing this but recently we had our SA State Scent Work trial where we had well over 100 teams competing over three days including teams from interstate, the biggest event on our ANKC Scent Work calendar in SA.

It was so lovely receiving this message from Tegan after the states, she did a couple of scent work sessions with me simply to polish a few things up. I am so proud of her, Tex and Thyme, applying a few different techniques really paid off!! Well done to them, so thrilled for them! 🥳

We had another busy weekend out competing in dog sports but the highlight came on Sunday at SDKODC Tricks trial where we had 9 qualifications from 9 teams entering the Tricks Intermediate ring, a rare thing to occur!!

We were not only privileged enough to be part of this but after watching some very strong performances by other teams, my 2.5 year old Miss Phoenix said “hold my beer” walked into the ring, smashed through her tricks beautifully and strolled back out with a very impressive score of 78/80, taking out 1st place, again!!

In our 5 qualifications at TK.I level we have earned a 3rd placing, a 2nd placing and three 1st placings, to say I am proud of this girl would be an understatement. ⭐️

We need one more Q to add the letters TK.I to Phoenix’s “fancy name” currently reading as Brafferton Raven at InkdinIce RN. SWA. TK.N. SPRD.A. JC. For now, it might be Wednesday but I am still over the moon with our teamwork and Phoenix’s ex*****on of some very complex tricks on Sunday, so proud of this young girl. ⭐️
