We are postponing our class tonight but please make sure you are not letting dogs out unsupervised during these types of weather warnings. Take your dogs out now, and use a leash if it starts to get dicey even if you have a fenced yard.

HEADS UP: The Storm Prediction center now gives a 95% probability a Watch will need to be issued for WNY by 5pm. Their messaging references uncertainty as to whether this will be a Severe Thunderstorm Watch or a Tornado Watch. This will likely depend on short-term trends in convective development over the next 90 minutes. One way or another, it appears a Watch of some sort is coming shortly.

✨ ATTENTION DOG PARENTS: Seasonal Allergies Are Coming! ✨

🍂 I know… no one wants to talk about Fall yet! But if your dog struggles with itchy skin, runny eyes, constant scratching, or paw licking this time of year, now is the time to get ahead of it.

When pollens, molds, and dust rise, your dog’s mast cells (found in the skin, respiratory tract, and gut) release histamine in response. That histamine = inflammation, which drives allergy symptoms.

💊 Enter Quercetin – sometimes called “nature’s Benadryl.”
It’s a flavonoid + powerful antioxidant that helps block histamine production and release.
⚡ Bonus: The enzyme bromelain boosts absorption of quercetin, so look for supplements that include both. (Comment below if you’d like my recommended product link!)

✅ Proactive Steps You Can Start Now
1. Quercetin → starting dose 20–25 mg per kg of body weight (always build up slowly, divide between two meals).
2. Dust & vacuum more often to lower allergen load indoors.
3. Watch open windows – they let in pollen and mold spores.
4. Invest in a HEPA air purifier to keep allergens down.
5. Wipe paws (and even coat) with a damp towel after outdoor walks.
6. Quick cool rinses help remove pollens/dust from skin and coat.

📌 Pro tip: Mast cells also live in the digestive tract. Many dogs with environmental allergies also react to foods. A temporary shift to a limited-ingredient diet (single protein + single carb) can help lower their overall allergy threshold during high-allergen seasons.
