Unity for Animals-UFA We are a 501c3 transitional Foster house in Memphis that helps animals in the Urgent list at the Memphis Shelter.

We also educate, connects and organizes campaigns around the issues that impact the animals and our community. Unity for Animals is a 501c3 organization that fosters, educates, connects, and organizes campaigns around the issues that impact animals and the greater Memphis area. We strive to unify and strengthen our community so we can work towards having a local shelter that does not euthanize an

imals for time and/or space. It is also our mission to inform citizens of the programs available for spay/neuter and pet vaccines, and educate about pet ownership and pet surrender alternatives, especially within at-risk communities. We also work with rescues and help house animals for a short stay until they are ready to be transported to rescues, adopters or fosters. Our Unity for Animals educational and foster house works by turning compassion into action, and it is our goal to promote the inclusion of at-risk children for pet ownership education by empowering children to become animal advocates.

🆘 Write your City Leaders:

Example Below

Dear Mayor and City Council Members, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the prolonged absence of a full-time veterinarian at our shelter, which has now exceeded two years. I urge you to reconsider the terms of the contract and offer employee benefits to attract highly qualified veterinarian candidates. Notably, the shelter previously had two veterinarians on staff. I kindly request that you take immediate action to rectify this situation.

🐾 We need to talk about the root of our stray dog crisis. 🐾I see so many posts advocating to pick up every dog off the streets. While I completely understand the compassion behind this, doing it without a realistic exit plan is just a temporary Band-Aid.Right now, our municipal shelter is full and completely lacks veterinarian staff. This forces us into two dangerous extremes:❌ Leaving them on the street to artificially protect "live release" numbers.❌ Mass impoundment that leads directly to euthanizing animals for space.Neither side is addressing the actual problem. If we don’t stop the influx of new animals, more strays will just take their place year after year.Memphis has been trapped in this exact same cycle for over 20 years. We are just moving in circles! 🔄We will never adopt our way out of overpopulation. To actually fix this, our city must invest in and enforce three things:1️⃣ Targeted, low-cost spay and neuter programs in the inner city.2️⃣ Public education on responsible pet ownership.3️⃣ Strict enforcement of our local animal laws.It is not okay to collect animals without a humane exit plan. Let’s stop managing the crisis and start solving it at the source. Clear the streets by preventing the litters. 🛑🐕

Memphis residents are urged to advocate for the welfare of stray animals in their community. It is crucial to recognize that leaving them on the streets poses risks to some, while rounding them up and placing them in overcrowded facilities is also not a safe solution for others. Finding common ground and protecting these animals from harm is essential. Advocacy is needed for low-cost spay and neuter services that are readily available to underserved communities. Stricter laws regarding animal abuse and abandonment must also be advocated for. Furthermore, it is imperative that the Memphis animal shelter has a minimum of two full-time veterinary doctors on staff. The shelter should also be encouraged to hire a full-time volunteer coordinator and additional staff to support animal enrichment. Donations to local animal rescues are also vital. Community members can make a difference by fostering a pet from the shelter or a rescue organization. Writing to the Mayor and City Council to express concerns in a professional and respectful manner is also encouraged. Raising awareness among family and friends about the shelter's open intake policy and weekly euthanization of animals due to space constraints is crucial.
Lets do this
Be persistent and have Faith

‼️Statement from Critical Memphis Page Admins:
We are Not the shelter. We are networkers. Our page raises pledges to help 501c3 rescues that pull urgent dogs from MAS. If you pledge on a dog, once a MAS approved 501c3 pet placement partner (rescue) commits and pulls the dog that you pledged for, we put donors and rescue into a group message. You will then donate directly to that rescue - for that particular dog.
If the dog is adopted (or sadly, euthanized) no pledges are collected.

🫶🏼Thank you for helping to fight for these lives. Every share, message, and action matters.
