🚨 WHY WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT 🚨
One thing that makes Sunnyside Street Dogs different from many rescues is that we don’t just pull dogs from shelters.
We take dogs directly off the streets of Houston, and we regularly take on medical cases that many rescues simply do not have the resources to accept.
Dogs living on the street are a different story. Their medical history is unknown. Their behavior is unknown. Many have never seen a veterinarian. Some are sick, injured, heartworm positive, covered in parasites, suffering from severe skin disease, recovering from trauma, or facing other costly medical conditions that won’t be discovered until after they are safe.
We are often the rescue that says “yes” when the dog is injured, sick, pregnant, heartworm positive, or facing a long and expensive recovery. Those are the dogs that need help the most, but they are also the dogs that require the greatest financial commitment.
When we commit to a street dog, we are taking a leap of faith. We never know what medical bills are waiting around the corner, but we know that if we don’t help, many of these dogs have no one else.
This week, we took in three puppies directly from the streets of Houston. Before these puppies can ever be adopted, they will need veterinary care, vaccines, deworming, preventatives, food, supplies, and everything else that comes with raising healthy puppies.
Saving dogs directly from the streets is one of the hardest and most expensive things we do, but it’s also one of the most important. These are the dogs that are often overlooked because there is no shelter advocating for them and no system in place to keep them safe.
