Update 10/12 12:30 pm. - the vet just called a little bit ago and said that his red blood cells dropped again. He is on steroids and they are going to do another transfusion. Hopefully later today he will have a CAT scan to see if there is an internal bleed that they couldn’t see on the ultrasound. They really do not think so because he has no other indicators such as blood in the stool or vomit. Since he’s been on antibiotics for a week, if it was tick related, the antibiotics would’ve addressed that already as per the Vet. Please keep this sweet, loving boy in your thoughts and prayers.
10/11. We’ve had quite a week to say the least! Ace hadn’t been eating like his usual self so after trying a couple different types of food, we ended up at our vet on Tuesday. They did bloodwork and an ultrasound and determined his red blood cells were low, he had a fever, and his spleen and liver were enlarged.
After discussing this with my friend and Ace’s breeder Amy, we took him to the emergency vet on Thursday. His bloodwork showed his red blood cells were a bit lower. They performed another ultrasound and even more bloodwork. They also biopsyed his enlarged spleen. After 7 hours, and no real answers, we came home.
On Saturday, we checked his red blood cells again and were told to get him to the emergency vet in hopes of saving him. Driving like a bat out of hell and with a flood of tears, we got him to the emergency vet. Ace was admitted and given a transfusion, more bloodwork and another ultrasound. His fever went up even higher and he wasn’t eating at all.
After I went to visit him today, the vet called that his fever had broken, he had eaten and his red blood cells, although still low, had improved since the transfusion. He seemed to be turning the corner thankfully!
Again, we still don’t have any answers and the biopsy results are not back yet but we’ll take the win for the day! Hopefully, if he continues to improve and stabilize, he can come home tomorrow!
Please keep him in your thoughts, prayers, send positive vibes, whatever you can so Ace can come home to us!
We love and miss you buddy!
