Is your cat drinking more water than usual? Don't brush it off.

It's easy to think "she's just thirsty" or "he's been in the litter box a lot lately, must be the heat." But increased thirst and urination in cats, especially seniors, is one of the earliest signs of kidney disease.

Here's the good news: caught early, kidney disease is very manageable. Cats diagnosed and treated in the early stages can live comfortably for years with the right diet and care plan.

The cats who do best are the ones whose owners caught the small changes early, not the big scary ones.

Watch for: increased thirst, more frequent urination, weight loss even with a normal appetite, and a duller coat.

If any of this sounds familiar, it's worth a simple round of bloodwork. Early detection changes everything.

If your cat is straining in the litter box and nothing's coming out, that's an emergency. Tonight, not tomorrow.

This is one we can't soften: a blocked cat can go into crisis within 24–48 hours. It's most common in male cats, and it's easy to mistake for "just constipation" until it isn't.

Signs to know:
Frequent trips to the litter box with little or no urine
Straining or crying out while trying to go
A hard, painful belly
Vomiting or hiding

If you see this, please don't wait it out. Call us, or your nearest emergency vet, right away even if it's the middle of the night. Early treatment is the single biggest factor in a full recovery.

You know your cat's normal. Trust it.

That "just one bite" of table scraps? It might be worth thinking twice.

Fatty foods, bacon grease, fried leftovers, holiday scraps, are one of the most common triggers of pancreatitis in dogs. And it can hit fast: repeated vomiting, a hunched "praying" posture, no interest in food, and clear discomfort in the belly.

It's one of the most common digestive emergencies we see, and it's often mistaken for a simple upset stomach at first.

The good news: with early treatment fluids, pain management, and a careful return to a low-fat diet most dogs recover well and go back to their happy, food-obsessed selves.

The lesson isn't "never treat your dog." It's: skip the fatty scraps, and if your dog is vomiting repeatedly or won't eat, don't wait to see if it passes.

Watching your dog slow down is hard. Especially when you're not sure if it's "just age" or something more.

Laser therapy at Grove Center Veterinary Hospital is a gentle, drug-free way to help dogs move and feel better again. No needles. No sedation. No downtime.

Reduces pain & inflammation: by calming the response at a cellular level
Improves mobility & healing: through better circulation and tissue repair
Safe, fast & non-invasive: most sessions are just 5–15 minutes, and many dogs fall asleep during treatment

Whether your dog is recovering from surgery, managing arthritis, or dealing with a soft tissue injury, laser therapy works with the body's natural healing, not just masking symptoms.

If your pup has been slower to get up, less excited for walks, or just seems "off" lately, it might be worth asking us about it.
