Eating more but still losing weight? Don't ignore the signs.

Hyperthyroidism is a common hormonal condition in older cats that can affect their heart, kidneys, and overall health.

Watch for:
1. Weight loss despite a normal or increased appetite
2. Increased thirst and urination
3. Restlessness or loud nighttime yowling
4. Vomiting or diarrhea

Not all bleeding can wait.

Treat it as an emergency if you see:
1. Blood spurting, pouring, or soaking through a bandage within minutes
2. Bleeding that doesn’t stop after 10 minutes of firm pressure
3. Pale, white or grey gums
4. Weakness, collapse, or fast breathing
5. A hard, swollen belly after trauma
6. Blood from the nose, mouth or re**um with no clear cause
7. Suspected rat poison

Internal bleeding often shows no blood at all. If your dog is quiet, cold or just “off” after an accident, get them seen the same day.

Well-meaning mistakes can make things worse.

Please don’t:
1. Use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol on wounds
2. Give human painkillers like ibuprofen or paracetamol (toxic to dogs)
3. Pull out anything stuck in the body
4. Lift the bandage to check the wound
5. Use a tourniquet, except as a last resort for life-threatening limb bleeding

Keep a pet first aid kit ready:
🩹 Gauze and self-adhesive wrap
🧂 Styptic powder (for bleeding nails)
💧 Sterile saline
📞 Your vet’s number and the nearest emergency clinic

Blood on your dog is terrifying. Your first few minutes matter, so here’s the calm version.

1. Stay calm (a soft muzzle can help, but never if your dog is vomiting or struggling to breathe)
2. Press firmly for 5-10 minutes without p*eking
3. Add layers if it soaks through
4. Wrap snugly, and raise the limb if you can
5. Call your vet

Is your cat straining in the litter box?

Don't wait. If your cat is squatting, crying, or trying to p*e with little or nothing coming out, it could be FLUTD, and a blocked urinary tract can become life-threatening within 24 to 72 hours, especially in male cats.

Watch for:
1. Frequent trips to the litter box
2. Blood in the urine
3. Peeing outside the box
4. Excessive licking of the ge***al area

- Straining with no urine = go to the vet NOW.
- Add wet food and extra water bowls to help prevent it.

✅ Fact: Straining in the litter box with no urine can signal a urinary blockage (FLUTD), which is an emergency.

❌ Myth: "Drinking lots of water is a good sign."
✅ Fact: Sudden extra thirst can be an early sign of diabetes in cats.

❌ Myth: "Dry food is enough, and cats don't need much water."

🐾 PLEASE SHARE MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD AREA — VINNY IS LOOKING FOR HIS FOREVER HOME! 🐾

Vinny is a neutered Lab mix, just about 2 years-old, with a gentle heart, soulful eyes, and so much love to give. He was born on June 6, 2024, weighs about 40 pounds, and has a beautiful brown-and-white coat. Vinny is the kind of dog who just wants to cuddle with his owners. He loves cuddling, curling up in bed, and feeling safe and cared for. He’s sweet, affectionate, and deeply loving — the kind of pup who looks at you like you’re his whole world. He just needs a little TLC and a family to call his own. He’s still young and full of joyful puppy energy. Vinny is very athletic, loves to run, play, and stretch his legs, and would be thrilled to have a yard where he can zoom around and just be a happy dog. At the same time, he’s calm and content at home, especially when he has his toys, dog bones, or his crate — which is his comfort place and where he sleeps peacefully at night.

Vinny is neutered, microchipped, potty trained, and fully vaccinated including rabies, all completely up-to-date. He’s received professional training at DogiZone in Rockville, follows directions well, and truly wants to please. He’s not a big barker, loves car rides, and has been living successfully with an older female golden, yet may be best for a 1-dog family. He’s been loved, trained, and carefully cared for this past year, but it’s time to find the right forever home. He’s been consistently seen by caring veterinarians. All medical and up-to-date vaccination records are available, as his care has always been a top priority since day 1. His health is top-notch; he's now seemingly full-grown. Vinny was for my daughter. Shortly after getting him, however, she was offered her first job out of college — an opportunity she couldn’t turn down — in Los Angeles. Vinny would be happiest with a family — especially one with kids — who can give him love, attention, and space to run. In return, he’ll give loyalty, affection, laughter, and companionship in ways only a dog like Vinny can. I don’t have a yard and I am a 1-dog guy who has had my older golden for years prior to Vinny, I got Vinny thru his puppyhood stage, so its time to give him up. All crates, collars, leashes, food bowls, etc given free of charge, plus all records.
