⚠️ PFAS Advisory for Pet Owners ⚠️
If you haven't heard yet we wanted to make you aware. Montgomery County recently reported elevated levels of PFAS ("forever chemicals") in a stormwater pond and nearby stream located near Great Seneca Highway and Key West Avenue.
If you walk your dog in this area, please keep pets out of the water and do not allow them to drink from the pond or stream.
The good news: a brief or one-time exposure is not expected to cause immediate illness in most dogs. The primary concern with PFAS is repeated exposure over time, as these chemicals can accumulate in the body.
If your dog recently swam in the area:
✅ Rinse or bathe them with clean water
✅ Prevent future exposure
✅ Monitor for any signs of illness
Contact your veterinarian if your pet develops vomiting, diarrhea, decreased appetite, weight loss, excessive thirst or urination, or unusual lethargy.
If your dog regularly visited this area or frequently drank from the water, please give us a call. We can discuss your pet's exposure history and whether an examination or screening bloodwork may be appropriate.
