⚠️⚠️⚠️ These force-free trainers really need to be stopped ! They are scamming people left right and centre !

If your dog attacks you guys, don’t worry, just say thank you and give it a hot dog and it will be fine.

This is why I will never ever ever be convinced that this bu****it force-free ONLY approach works for any and every dog. It’s bu****it, it’s an ideology 🙃

I get a message like this every single day ! Trainers/behaviourists that are recommended by vets, giving out this kind of dangerous advice !

This owner has been struggling with this rescue dog she’s had for a few months. Previous trainers told her to use a clicker, some cheese and to work at it for a few months and she will get better 🤦🏻‍♂️ then, when that failed, the trainer recommended medicating her, that’s when the owner put a stop to it and came to me.

She travelled by boat to come to Glasgow and work with us which shows how committed they are to helping her.

We had to teach her how to deal with her stress and anxiety. Avoiding triggers hasn’t worked… the owner has done that for months. She has also bitten in the home aswell. Which is due to her choosing conflict when she is stressed so we have to give her an alternative coping mechanism.

A lot of people would have gave up and put her to sleep, but the owner wants to give her a chance.

Was this session pretty or perfect ? Far from it ! But we got more progress in 1 hour than they had in 4 months working with the previous trainer.

Results matter ! And when you are dealing with a bite risk dog, that’s one accident away from hurting someone or being PTS then we need to act FAST ! Nobody has 6 months to mess about with a clicker 🤦🏻‍♂️ absolute frauds !

I’ll be documenting the rest of nalas training with us so keep an eye out. I have every faith that this dog is going to turn it around 💪🏻

Some people may not agree or like what we do, which is fine. There is a reason as to why we carry out these training drills. Every dog that walks through the group class door has struggled with reactivity of some form and 99% of the time it’s because they don’t know how to cope in stressful situations. They look for an escape through conflict.

At the group class, we teach the dogs that this is not an escape, that there are better ways to deal with the stress.

Are the dogs enjoying it ? No, absolutely not but we don’t need them to, we need them to COPE with it ! That’s the difference. I don’t give a s**t if people think that’s wrong. Every single dog owner has encountered stress with their dog, even if it was at the hands of other irresponsible dog owners.

Rather than avoid it, you can teach them how to respond. Most of the dogs in this class would have responded to this exercise with conflict, attacking and reacting. But every single one of them coped with it brilliantly with zero outbursts.

Train for real life scenarios with your reactive dog, because I’ll tell you right now … a whistle, clicker or some cheese and hotdogs won’t solve a damn thing when s**t hits the fan 🤪

I don’t talk about her enough, but this is my own dog, Cali. Working line Golden Retriever. She is the reason I started all of this.

Despite the stereotypes that they are easy dogs to train, she was the exception 🤯🤣

She is 7 years old now, as sharp as ever, full of energy, always ready to go and over all, the best dog I could ask for us and our family.

She is often mistaken for a young pup/young adult due to her energy and bouncy personality. Not to mention the athletic condition she is for her age.

How do I keep her in such good shape ? Simple.

➡️ Fed once per day
➡️ Raw diet
➡️ Exercise
➡️ Training
➡️ Rest

The reason I don’t over feed is simple, I want to keep her longer.

As owners, we have an obligation to look after our dogs and keep them healthy. There is absolute ZERO excuses for your dog to be over fed , get fat and not have exercise.

It’s honestly not that difficult and if you can’t do, don’t get a dog.

But aye, there she is, an absolute beauty of a dog 💙

The article says “ popular training method “ which then goes on to say people should not stand and shout at “ their hoover or hairdryer” 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I can absolutely fu***ng assure you, that if you are standing shouting at your hoover then you should perhaps get your heed checked 🤪

Dogs can be easily overwhelmed by the sudden sound and movement of a vacuum cleaner, and Dogs Trust experts have warned against a popular but counterproductive method some owners use to help their pets overcome their fear
