Tomorrow, Bow Tie will be 4 weeks old. To say she’s been a challenge is an understatement. As the sole survivor of a litter of 7, she arrived at just 91 grams after spending her first night alone outside. Her first two weeks were marked by severe diarrhea and even a snap test for panleukopenia.
Finally, her stools firmed up, but then stopped altogether. Under the guidance of , we started Sub Q fluids and a diluted KMR formula. With no improvement after several days, we began the lactulose supplement on Friday.
I became concerned today when there was still no movement (pun intended). Coastal Animal Hospital confirmed there were no definitive signs of impacted stool, but there were definite signs of gas. Bow Tie received a simple e***a of warm water and lactulose, with immediate effect. I hope our sweetie is now over the first-month hump.
