To your cat… it’s actually a compliment! Cats groom the ones they trust. It can also be a way to bond, mark you with their scent, or just show a little love (in their own… chaotic way).

If it ever becomes excessive or obsessive, it could be a sign of stress or something medical, so keep an eye on it.

Black Mountain Veterinary Hospital will be closed on Saturday, June 6th due to being short staffed.

We apologize for any inconvenience and truly appreciate your patience and understanding. Our team works hard to ensure every patient receives the care and attention they deserve, and occasionally that means taking a day to regroup when staffing is limited.

If your pet experiences a medical emergency while we are closed, please contact Fairfield Animal Hospital at (250)-860-6550.

We will be back in the clinic and ready to help on Monday, June 8th during our regular business hours.

Thank you for your continued support of our small team. ❤️

Enrichment is so much more than keeping our cats entertained. Activities like this help satisfy natural hunting instincts, provide mental stimulation, reduce boredom, build confidence, and can even help prevent unwanted behaviors that stem from a lack of stimulation.

In the wild, cats spend a large portion of their day stalking, hunting, and problem-solving.

Enrichment toys and puzzles allow them to express those natural behaviors in a safe and healthy way.

George may look like he's having fun (and he totally is ), but he's also getting an important mental workout that helps keep him happy, healthy, and engaged.

Sphynx cats may be known for their unique hairless look, but there’s much more to this breed than appearance alone. 🐱 Because they lack a normal fur coat, Sphynx cats often need a little extra help with skin care, warmth, and routine hygiene. Their skin can collect oils more easily, and they may be more sensitive to sun exposure and cold temperatures than other cats.

Open play with your dog is safest when they have reliable recall, respond to basic cues, and are in a secure, enclosed area. 🐶 Before unclipping the leash, make sure your dog will come when called, can refocus on you around distractions, and is not likely to run toward people, wildlife, roads, or other dogs.

If your dog tends to ignore cues, bolt, guard toys, or become overstimulated, more training may be needed before off-leash play is a good idea. A good rule of thumb: if you’re not confident you can call your dog back right away, it’s not the right time for open play yet. Questions about safe exercise, behavior, or whether your dog is ready for more freedom? Call (778) 753-3507.

Sweet, fluffy, and impossible not to love. These two had us wrapped around their paws from the moment we met them. 🥹

💧 Is your dog drinking enough water? A good rule of thumb: about 1 oz per pound of body weight daily. But things like heat, activity, and diet can change that! Noticing big changes in thirst? That can be a sign something’s up. Let’s check it out: (778) 753-3507

Who needs a cat tree when you have a veterinarian to climb on instead?

Ozzy was pretty convinced Dr. G’s entire purpose today was being his personal jungle gym.😂
