Meet Phoebe! 🤎🤍

This gorgeous 10-year-old Cavoodle has been keeping us busy lately 💛

Phoebe has been on quite the health journey recently, and this week she came in for a dual cavity ultrasound with Dr Zane Hsu a specialist from the team at Vets North 🩺✨

After her recent check-up flagged a heart murmur, our team wanted to get a really thorough picture of what’s going on inside. The ultrasound looked at both her heart and abdomen, giving us valuable information to help keep this sweet girl feeling her best for years to come.

Thanks to these results, Phoebe has now started a new heart medication to help support her cardiac health — her owners have been fantastic throughout the whole process, asking all the right questions and making sure she gets everything she needs. 🏡❤️

Phoebe, you are one special girl and we are so lucky to be part of your care team! 🐶💕

💛 Is your dog due for a heart check? Heart murmurs are more common than you might think — especially in older and smaller breed dogs. Early detection makes a big difference! Book a health check with our team today and let’s make sure your furry family member’s ticker is in top shape. 🐾❤️

🏊‍♀️🚴‍♀️🏃‍♀️ We are SO proud of our incredible nurse Caity!

Recently , our very own Caity took on one of the toughest endurance challenges around — the IRONMAN 70.3 Western Sydney — and she absolutely smashed it! 💪

For those who don’t know, an IRONMAN 70.3 involves a 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride, and a 21.1km run. All back to back. It is no small feat — and for Caity, this was her very first IRONMAN. 🤯

Not only did she cross that finish line, but she did it with the kind of grit and determination that honestly doesn’t surprise us one bit — because anyone who has met Caity knows she brings that same energy to everything she does, including caring for your beloved pets here at the clinic. 🐾

To top it all off, Caity even had her photo featured on the official IRONMAN page — a well-deserved moment in the spotlight! 📸⭐
Caity, you are an absolute legend and we are so lucky to have you on our team. We hope you’re resting those legs (and letting someone else do the fetching for once 😄)!

Congratulations from all of us at St Ives Vet 💙🩵

Maggie’s back — and the cone is OFF! 🎉

This beautiful Australian Cobber Dog came in for her post-surgery recheck this week, and we are thrilled to report that her stitches are out and her wound has healed perfectly. 🐾✨

We think Maggie had very strong feelings about losing that cone. 😄

While she was in, our vet spotted a little ear irritation so she’s heading home with some ear drops to get that sorted. Nearly there, Maggie! 👂

Such a good girl throughout the whole process. We love a happy ending! 🌟

👁 A fond farewell to our Dr Elise! 👁️

After being such a wonderful part of our St Ives Vet family, the time has come to say goodbye to Dr Elise — and what an exciting reason it is! 🌟

Dr Elise is off to follow her passion and pursue her dream of becoming a specialist veterinary ophthalmologist. She’ll soon be beginning her intern rotation, and we honestly couldn’t be more proud of her for taking this incredible leap. 🐾

Dr Elise has brought so much warmth, dedication, and care to our patients and their families, and her passion for veterinary medicine has always shone through in everything she does. She is going to make an absolutely brilliant specialist, and the animals lucky enough to be in her care are in the very best hands. 👐

She will be truly missed by all of us here at the clinic — the team, our clients, and the many furry patients whose lives she has touched. 🐶🐱

We are cheering you on every step of the way, Dr Elise! Wishing you all the very best on this exciting new chapter — go show them what you’ve got! 🎉✨

🐾 Patient Spotlight: Nugget 🐾

Meet Nugget — a 9-year-old English Staffy with the heart of a champion and the resilience to match. 💛

And just look at that smile! 😄 If you didn’t know what this boy had been through, you’d never guess — because Nugget approaches life with the kind of boundless joy and enthusiasm that makes everyone around him smile too.

This handsome boy has had quite the year. It started back in February when an accident left him with a badly injured tail, requiring partial amputation and weeks of careful bandage changes while the surgical site healed. He took it all in his stride (and still found energy to wag the remaining tail 😅).

Fast forward to last month, and sharp-eyed Dr Sally noticed Nugget had also developed an enlarged testicle at his routine health check — a testicular tumour. He headed back into surgery for a castration, and we’re thrilled to share that histopathology confirmed it was a benign tumour, completely removed. Surgery was curative. 🙌

Nugget is now home, recovering beautifully, and back to his boisterous self.

A huge credit goes to his devoted owners, who have been by his side every step of the way. Nugget is very lucky to have such an attentive family — and we think they’re pretty lucky to have him too. 🐶

Here’s to smooth sailing from here, Nugget! 🌟

🦷✨ PART 4 — Oscar’s All-Clear

Here’s Oscar. Sitting on the stairs like he absolutely owns them. 🏆🐾

Not long ago, stairs weren’t even on the table.

Eight weeks on from his TPLO surgery, Oscar came back in for his post-operative X-rays with Dr Sally. The verdict from specialist surgeon Dr Eugene Buffa? The plate looks perfect. Oscar is cleared from confinement. 🙌

And that video of him walking perfectly — not a hint of a limp. 🥹

While he was in, we also took care of a dental and checked his bladder X-rays — no new stones, healthy mouth, all good on every front. This boy got a complete bill of health. 💙

Oscar went home the same day, and his devoted family called the next morning to let us know he’d had a good night and was already back to himself.

From a dog who didn’t want to leave the house… to conquering the stairs at 11 years old.

We are so proud of you, Oscar. 🤍

Meet Charlie — a 14-and-a-half-year-old Maltese x Poodle who has been stealing hearts at St Ives Vet for years. With the energy of a puppy and the spirit of a seasoned veteran, this little gentleman is a reminder of just how full and vibrant senior dog life can be.

Charlie has been managing mitral valve disease for a while now, and we’re so proud of how well he’s doing. He came in recently for a full cardiology work-up — echo, chest X-rays, the works — and while his heart is keeping us on our toes, his cardiac function remains stable. He’s on medication to support his heart, and his dedicated family keeps a close eye on his sleeping respiratory rate at home.

The other mystery on Charlie’s list? A bit of a cough that’s been niggling at him lately. After a thorough investigation, we think it’s most likely related to his airways rather than his heart — possibly chronic bronchitis. We’ve adjusted his medication to help manage this, and we’ll keep monitoring closely.

Charlie also reminded us just how important dental health is — dental disease can affect so much more than just the teeth, including nearby lymph nodes. We’re keeping a close eye on things there too.

At 14, Charlie is proof that with the right care, senior dogs can live full, happy, adventurous lives. He’s even heading off on a road trip with his family soon! 🚗✨

To Charlie’s wonderful family — thank you for your dedication to his care. He’s lucky to have you. 🩷

Is your senior pet due for a check-up? Regular monitoring makes all the difference as our pets age — just ask Charlie. Book an appointment with our team today. 📅

Checking in on Dennis 🩷

This is Dennis, a 6-month-old Italian Greyhound, and his story starts the way all great ones do — with chaos, a pot plant, and very bad timing.

At just 14 weeks old, Dennis had been home with his new family for 20 minutes when he jumped from a pot plant and fractured his leg. The break was significant, requiring surgical repair with plates — a big ordeal for such a tiny boy.

Dennis’s surgery was performed by a specialist team, and he came to us recently for his post-operative x-rays. We are so happy to share that he is recovering beautifully. Everything looks exactly as it should, and this little guy has a whole lot of life ahead of him.

He has two Italian Greyhound siblings at home cheering him on (we assume), and a family who clearly adore him.

Keep going, Dennis. We’re cheering you on . 🐾

Meet Maggie — a fluffy, one-year-old Australian Cobber Dog who came in last week for her desexing surgery. Despite being a little nervous on arrival (understandable, Maggie — none of us love Fridays at the vet!), she was a complete legend from start to finish. 🌟
Maggie’s spey went beautifully. She recovered wonderfully, was snuggled up on warm blankets post-op, and headed home the same afternoon looking very pleased with herself — cone and all. 🎀

Aftercare reminder for desexed dogs: Rest and restricted activity for 10–14 days is key to a smooth recovery. Keep the e-collar on to protect the wound, finish any medications as directed, and book that post-op check so we can make sure everything is healing perfectly.

Thinking of desexing your dog? It’s one of the best things you can do for their long-term health. Give us a call and we’ll talk you through it. 🐶
