Odie is a happy, affectionate, playful and incredibly loving young Boxer who thinks everyone she meets is her new best friend. She is also FULL of energy — and her family has realised that she needs a lifestyle that better matches her enthusiasm and her need for exercise, play, training and attention. 🐕‍🦺

Odie is:
Extremely loving and people-friendly.
Gentle and good with children, but because she is strong, boisterous and can get very excited, we would prefer a home with older, dog-savvy children.
Playful and friendly with other dogs, although she can be way too enthusiastic and doesn’t always know when another dog has had enough.
Smart and loves training!
Good on lead, although she needs managing closely around other dogs.
Happy to stay home alone and has no separation anxiety.
Crate trained and house trained.
A total cuddle bug who thinks she’s a lap dog. 🩷

Odie needs help learning to settle and calm herself. She can become very excited and intense when visitors arrive and needs a family who is prepared to continue working on this with her.

She has no experience with cats and cannot be trusted off lead as her recall isn’t reliable.

Her family is devastated to surrender her, but they know that Odie needs more activity, interaction and stimulation than they are currently able to provide. They want to give her the opportunity to thrive in a lifestyle better suited to her needs.

We are looking for a Foster to Adopt family who can keep up with Odie and give her the exercise, structure, training and attention she loves. An active family who wants their dog involved in life — walks, adventures, camping, cafes and plenty of fun — would be ideal.

Odie is a beautiful young Boxer with so much love to give. She just needs a family who can match her energy and embrace everything this gorgeous girl has to offer.

Foster Carer Needed or Foster to Adopt Home!!

Dear Friends,

My name is Brax, and I am 10 years young.

Yes, I may be a little grey around the edges these days, but don’t let the silver highlights fool you — there is still plenty of spring left in my step. I prefer to think of the grey as making me look distinguished. Very George Clooney, if you ask me.

At the moment, I am residing somewhere I certainly never imagined I would be at my age.

The pound.

It’s not exactly the retirement village I had pictured. No comfy recliner, no afternoon tea, and the room service leaves a lot to be desired. But here I am, waiting and hoping that somewhere out there is someone looking for an older gentleman to share their life with.

There’s a young bloke in the cell next to me. I’ve nicknamed him Smiley, because every time I look over, he seems to have a grin on his face.

I’m not entirely sure what he’s smiling about.

Give him a couple more days in here and he might come to his senses.

As for me, I’m a friendly older chap who would much rather be spending my days somewhere peaceful, with a soft bed, a nice patch of sunshine and someone who doesn’t mind having a slightly grey shadow following them around.

I have met another dog while I’ve been here — another golden oldie, actually. I wasn’t particularly interested in her. No offence, love, but at my age I’m allowed to be selective! Because Scruffer Lovers are still getting to know me and my history is limited, they think a dog-free home would be best to begin with.

Cats? Unknown.

And between you and me, perhaps we should just leave that particular mystery unsolved for now.

I’m friendly with people, and because nobody knows my full history, older children would be best while everyone gets to know the real Brax.

I know 10 might sound old to some people.

But I don’t need someone to feel sorry for me.

I just need someone to look past the grey hairs and see that there’s still a dog here who has love to give, walks to take, naps to enjoy and memories still waiting to be made.

I don’t need a huge adventure.

I’d be quite happy with the little things — a warm home, a comfy bed, a wander around the neighbourhood, someone to talk to me while I pretend I understand every word, and a person to come home to.

So, if you’ve got room in your home for an older gentleman with silver around the edges and a bit of spring still left in his step, perhaps you could give Scruffer Lovers a call.

We were recently contacted to assist with rehoming some unplanned puppies. We were more than happy to help and sent out the paperwork, however the next thing we knew, these babies had been left at the pound. 💔

The pound is no place for puppies, and they urgently need foster carers (foster with the view to adopt)

• A family ready for all things puppy
• Commitment to ongoing training & socialisation
• To be included as part of the family
• Patience, time and plenty of love
• An understanding of the energetic, bouncy Boxer breed

🐾 Meet Zulu 🐾

Meet beautiful Zulu, our little pocket rocket! 🚀

Zulu is a very happy, loving and affectionate Boxer who is always ready to go, go, GO! She is full of energy, incredibly eager to please and loves being involved in whatever her people are doing.

Zulu is looking for a foster home where she can have the opportunity to really thrive. She needs rules, structure and clear boundaries, along with plenty of exercise, mental stimulation and positive interaction with her people. Once she knows what is expected of her, she is keen to please and loves having a job to do.

Zulu is a very enthusiastic girl, her energy and exuberant personality can be a lot for other dogs, so for now, Zulu needs to be the only dog in the home.

Like many Boxers, Zulu greets people with plenty of enthusiasm, so she would be best suited to a home with older children who won’t be easily knocked over by her bouncy excitement.

We have become aware of several recent posts and comments from local community members reporting dogs becoming suddenly unwell, including neurological symptoms and seizure activity, after being out in the Aldinga Beach / Sellicks Beach and surrounding areas.

At this stage, we have no evidence to confirm that these incidents are connected, nor that poisoning or any particular substance is responsible. We are therefore not suggesting that there is a confirmed poisoning risk in the area.

However, given that similar concerns have been raised by several members of the community, we felt it was appropriate to make local pet owners aware and encourage a little extra caution when walking dogs.

For now, consider keeping dogs on lead where possible and preventing them from eating, licking or drinking anything unknown while out and about.

If your dog suddenly becomes unwell, particularly if they develop vomiting, unusual movements, tremors, difficulty walking, collapse or seizure activity, please seek veterinary attention promptly.

We will continue to remain aware of any reports coming through. This post is simply intended as a precautionary community notice rather than confirmation of any identified toxin or threat.

MISSY – LOOKING FOR HER FOREVER HOME

Meet Missy — a sweet, gentle and incredibly loyal girl who loves nothing more than being close to her people.

Missy is a devoted companion who loves being part of family life. She follows her person around the house, sits on their feet, leans against them and happily curls up beside them on the couch. She loves cuddles, burrowing under blankets and sleeping right next to her person.

She has a wonderfully cheeky personality and lots of little quirks that make her incredibly endearing. Missy loves her daily walks, car rides, toys, backyard fetch, treats and relaxing in the sunshine after some exercise.

She is also an excellent traveller and has travelled all the way from Darwin to NSW, taking the huge journey completely in her stride.

Missy would be best as the only dog. She used to get along with other dogs, but after being attacked while out on a walk, she has become nervous around unfamiliar dogs. She may bark when anxious, but with calm reassurance from her person she will usually settle and keep walking.

Missy is not suitable to live with cats.
Missy needs a secure, well-fenced yard and must be walked on lead. She doesn’t have great road awareness and will happily explore if given the opportunity.

Missy would suit a family, couple or single person who enjoys daily walks and wants a devoted companion who will happily be their shadow.

Missy isn’t just looking for a home — she’s looking for her person.
She has spent nearly nine years sharing her life with the people she loves. She has travelled across Australia, been there through life’s difficult moments and happiest ones, and remained unwaveringly loyal through it all.

Whoever welcomes Missy into their family won’t just be adopting a dog — they’ll be gaining a faithful best friend.

Meet Eva - a gorgeous, fun-loving 3-year-old Boxer with a huge personality and an even bigger heart 💓

Eva is playful, affectionate, energetic and wonderfully goofy. She is a very social girl who loves being involved in whatever is happening and wants to be part of family life. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

Water is one of Eva’s greatest loves. Give her a hose and she will happily spend her time trying to catch the water, followed by some serious Boxer zoomies around the yard! She loves toys, especially a big rope for tug-of-war, and enjoys chasing a ball. She would love a family who enjoys playing and interacting with her. 🥰

Eva also enjoys walks and has a good foundation of basic training, including sit, wait/stay and come. She is still working on calm lead walking and would benefit from someone who enjoys continuing her training using positive reinforcement.

Eva is very much a “where you go, I go” girl. If everyone is sitting outside, she wants to be right there with them — preferably with her own chair! She loves attention, affection and being included.

And Eva has an excellent sense of time: 5pm means dinner! ⏰⏰

A couple of things her future family should know: Eva has a bee allergy, so she needs to be supervised around bees.

💔 We don’t like asking… but today, we need your help.

Every day, we answer calls about dogs that have been abandoned, neglected, injured or simply no longer wanted.

We never know what the next phone call will bring, but we always know one thing… saying “yes” comes at a cost.

In recent months, we’ve spent well over $60,000 on veterinary care alone. We’ve celebrated incredible recoveries, but we’ve also had to make heartbreaking decisions when some dogs couldn’t be saved.

Right now, we’ve reached 20% of our fundraising goal, but we still have a long way to go.

DEADLY PLANTS IN YOUR GARDEN

A number of plants are poisonous to pets. These can cause serious illness and even death in some cases. It’s therefore important to check the safety of any plants before giving your pets access to them. Here’s a list of the common plants that cause toxicity. Please note there are many more that can be deadly.

If you think your pet has ingested a toxic plant, it may be a medical emergency. Please call us immediately on 8258 4838.

AZALEA - The entire plant - paralysis of muscles and depression of the nervous system. Sometimes fatal.

BIRD OF PARADISE - Seed pods - nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.

CANNA LILLY - Entire plant - intense burning sensation, irritation of the mouth and stomach.

CASTOR BEAN - Entire plant, especially seeds - burning sensation in the mouth. Swallowing 2 or more seeds may cause serious illness or death.

DAFFODIL - Bulb - severe vomiting and diarrhoea, trembling, convulsions, sometimes fatal.

DAPHNE - Entire plant - burning/ulceration of stomach/intestines, bloody vomiting and diarrhoea.

ENGLISH IVY - Leaves and berries - general excitement, difficulty breathing, coma.

HOLLY - Berries - Vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness and collapse. IRIS Leaves, roots, fleshy portions - severe but temporary digestive upset.

JERUSALEM CHERRY - Berries - vomiting, diarrhoea and collapse.

YELLOW JESSAMINE - Entire plant - thirst, dilation of pupils, reddened skin, headache, high blood pressure rapid pulse, convulsions, delirium and coma.

LANTANA - Berries - gastrointestinal irritation, muscular weakness, circulatory difficulties sometimes fatal.

OLEANDER - Entire plant - nausea, depression, bloody diarrhoea, weakened/irregular pulse, paralysis.

POINSETTIA - Leaves and stem - diarrhoea, abdominal cramps, delirium. Sap can cause irritation and blindness if rubbed in eyes.

POISON OAK - Leaves - skin irritation.

PRIVET - Entire plant - bloody vomiting, diarrhoea, severe irritation of the digestive tract and general nervous system.

RANNUNCULUS - Entire plant - stomach irritation, diarrhoea, convulsions if large quantities.

(BUTTERCUP) RHUBARB - Leaves - vomiting, severe abdominal pain, muscle cramps. Coma and death if large quantities.

WISTERIA - Entire plant - severe vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhoea.
