When Nyx, a magnificent Percheron mare and crowd-favourite jousting horse, developed a significant soft tissue injury within her foot, her future in competition was uncertain.

Working closely with her devoted owner Amanda, Paula and the WestVETS Equine team developed a diagnostic and rehabilitation plan to give Nyx the best possible chance of returning to work. Following advanced imaging and many months of careful rehabilitation, Amanda’s dedication never wavered.

Today, we’re thrilled to see Nyx back doing what she loves, charging down the jousting field and delighting spectators once again at the Abbey Medieval Festival.

Congratulations to Amanda on her commitment to Nyx’s recovery, and thank you for trusting WestVETS to be part of the journey. Seeing this incredible mare back in action is what makes our job so rewarding. 🐴💙⚔️

🎉 Congratulations to Dr Jessie Field on being awarded an Equine Veterinarians Australia Bain Fallon Young Member Scholarship for 2026!

Jessie is currently completing her equine internship at WestVETS and has shown outstanding dedication to equine veterinary medicine, research, and the future of our profession. We are proud to see her recognised with this well-deserved scholarship.

Thrilled to see the WestVETS team representing at AVA Conference in Brisbane this year! 👏🐴

Dr Tori and Natasha shared their latest research, presenting on OPU/ICSI and antimicrobial use in foals respectively — fantastic to see their work contributing to ongoing advances in equine veterinary medicine.

Dr Paula attended on behalf of the EVA, continuing to support collaboration and advocacy within the industry, while Dr Nathan presented at the prepurchase workshops, sharing practical insights and expertise with attendees.

A big shoutout as well to Dr Brianna, Hope, Clare and Ashleigh, who attended sessions throughout the conference and came away with plenty of new knowledge and ideas to bring back to the team.
