Your Maine C**n kitten should NOT be jumping from high cat towers!
Those adorable climbing towers may look like the perfect playground—but for young Maine C**n kittens, high jumps and hard landings can put unnecessary stress on developing joints and bones.
Maine C***s grow rapidly, and their bones, joints and supporting muscles are still developing during kittenhood.
A big jump followed by a hard landing can place significant impact on growing joints, particularly the hips, elbows and other weight-bearing structures.
And because Maine C***s are predisposed to hip dysplasia, responsible breeders and owners should be mindful of unnecessary joint stress while kittens are growing.
🐾 Climbing is different from jumping.
Give kittens age-appropriate climbing opportunities, but keep towers low enough that they can’t launch themselves from dangerous heights.
If they do climb higher, make sure there is a soft, secure landing area underneath—such as a sofa or thick, cushioned surface—and avoid slippery floors underneath climbing structures.
The goal isn’t to stop kittens from playing. ❤️
It’s to let them play, climb and develop safely without unnecessary impact on growing joints.
